Hi Lady Bug, I had the scope done. Everyone said NO problem you'll wake up and feel great...I was ok but it took me about a week or so to feel like myself again..Just pooped and didn't have any energy. I knew I had been through something. NO PAIN just extremely tired. The only bad part was a nebulizer to numb my throat..I had to do that for about twenty min..I was numb all the way to my toes.. I am sure you'll be fine.

Liking your Dr. I think, is half of being able to stand this. I can't imagine having to see a Dr. that ya don't like.. Yep I have had lots of vials done at the same time too.. Thyroid they really get crazy with it..I'm glad that's over for you. Now On to a Good Diagnosis.

I saw a Dr. yesterday for a second opinion and he does not necessarily agree w/first dx of ipf. Says I do have pf but is doing more blood work to make a decision. He ordered 5! vials of blood. Must be doin' somethin' ok...........

Also wants me to raise head of bed w/2x4s (I checked out the inflatable one too).

ONE cup of coffee in the morning is ok. That's all I usually have anyway. As others here say, no chocolate, no fried foods and take the Prilosec daily.

He scheduled me for another pft, 6 min. walk and cat-scan on the 12th of Dec.

He is surely being thorough. I can't help but wonder that if this Dr. drew 5 vials of blood to check whatever...why didn't the first Dr. do all this? First one doesn't seem aggressive enough to me, to find out what is a true dx! I don't want and won't be simply a case number to a Dr. Even though I have to drive 35 min. to see #2 and he uses a different hospital than the closest one, it's ok with me. I do feel more confidence in this man. I like him!

Personalities DO make a difference.

So by mid-Dec. I should know something more definitive. #2 also says possibility of a lung check....not " bio " ...go down and take a sample....

If necessary to get a dx there is an outside possibility of a lung-bio. This I don't want so lets hope all this testing will reveal enough to know how to aggressively treat me.

Sher, I am praying that the #2 doc is correct and that he will be able to diagnose what it is exactly. I know what you mean about the doctor and the personality. The first doctor for the IPF that I saw had the bedside manners of a chimp. I saw him for about a year and then one day I needed to see him and all I got was the voice mail. I called him just about everyday for 2 months and never got a call back. I finally got tired and called a doctor in , MS which is an hour from me was able to get into see him in just a matter of a couple of days and ended up having to have a bronco to get my lungs cleared of a blockage. I could have died and I guess the first doc would not have given a flip. My new doc of 2 years is great. He takes time with all of his patients and he doesn't over book so no one feels rushed. It is worth the drive to me to see a doc that really seems to care. Each time that I see him when I leave his office he always tells me to (keep praying). That says a lot to me.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know as soon as you find out something.

I'm so glad you found a doc you like to give your situation a thorough going over. We all deserve as much information as we can get about our personal conditions. And you are sooooo right, personality makes a huge difference. We all have people we just don't click with but when we're so dependent on our physicians the cost of "not clicking" is too huge to bear.

I'll be praying that you get clear, definitive information from all the tests and that you can avoid the biopsy that you don't want.

Thanks for your encouragements. I feel so much better with this new Dr. and I'm actually looking forward to all the testing he is doing. When it's over, I will know for sure what type I have and how to treat it.

I've always thought that if it's not a positive dx then how does a Dr. know how to treat???

I'll let everybody know what happens as I move through it. I may end up right back where I began but at least I will know a Dr. cared enough to check it ALL out.

I'm thinking Dr. Schaumberg (Dr. 'S' to me....#2) will do a scope. Thanks for your experience. I won't dread it so much now. I'll tell myself it Peggy can do it, so can I!

Hi Sher,

I had the scope in April. They gave me a

twilight sleep and sprayed my throat to numb it. I don’t remember a

thing.

Reading the emails I hope to get to know

the group that is active. I don’t express my feelings very much. I am

trying to stay upbeat about all this.

thanks for your report on the scope. I don't dread this one, only the lung bio if necessary.

yes, there are a few (mostly women) who we see regularly on the board. A few guys...., Phred, Grey....

In our emails, I thought you expressed your feelings very well.

It is hard to stay upbeat. I find some days are better than others.

Stay with the board, you'll always read just what you need.

I guess I didn't mention they do a mini bio while they're in there with the scope but you'll never know it..they give ya really good drugs..LOL Have a great week-end.
