HC is hydrocortisone. Most docs will neither test nor treat adrenal fatigue unless you have full blown s. Amy Nguyen wrote: WHat is HC? I am pretty new. I went to my Endo on Tues. He listened to my complaints and said while he would not perscribe Armour he would check my T4 and also had me do the 24 hr urine collection to test for Cushing's. For those of you with adrenal fatigue I read the saliva test is best but how does the 24 urine test compare to the ACTH? I have read the ACTH is not as reliable? If I don't feel better soon I am thinking of going out to see

Dr. R. I have been hypo for years and have been telling my Dr I have not had more than 4 periods a year for the past 3-4 years. I wonder if it is the Cushing's or thyroid. I've never been able to separate hypo symptoms from adrenal symptoms. I'm also on Metanx.

Did you happen to get any advice from The Doc on the flu shot?

Kim, before I started HC, I also had pain,

in the vicinity, I’m guessing, of my adrenal glands, and the pain woke me

up throughout the night, too. I don’t have that particular pain

after 8 months on HC, unless I’m having more stress than usual (like being

in a car accident a couple of weeks ago, or my daughter dropping out of college

last week and my family deciding to hold me personally responsible for her decision,

or the fact I have to fire my assistant tomorrow and start training someone new!

Those are just the highlights!).

As far as side effects, I really can only

say that since I started the HC, I can tolerate the Armour increases (and I

couldn’t before the HC). I am struggling with weight gain around

the middle, but I attribute that to my poor eating habits from stress more than

the HC! I can’t expect the meds to do all the work for me…I have

to meet the treatment halfway, and I’m failing in that arena right now!

Your not kidding on being able to separate all of the symptoms. I think they so overlap and are interlinked. And then there is the interaction with the iron/ferritin issues. It is just mind boggling/overwhelming for me. I'm just so glad to have Dr R who understands it all.

No, I completely forgot to ask about the flu shot. I was too focused on the girls issues. I really meant to. I was especially interested in the one without preservatives.

Amy,

If it's possible the best thing is to go to Doc R., in my opinion. I was too sick to think straight or mess around with doctors who don't know what they're doing. I was also at the point of not trusting almost any medical opinion, especially the 'experts'. I'm very early in my treatment, but at least I have hope of getting better now.

It's my understanding that most doctors don't believe there's anything between Cushing's and 's, no fatigue or insufficiency. So they won't do the right tests or interpret the ones they will do correctly. I haven't had any saliva or urine tests with Dr. R., only blood work.

Good luck,

The bilateral back ache definitely started after taking the Armour and got really bad (waking me up) when I started having hyper symptoms. This was prior to starting HC. I had to go completely off of Armour do to the hyper symptoms until I could see Dr R and get started on HC. My ferritin was also extremely low (only 12) which I'm sure did not help the situation.

Hang in there with your stress...remember to breath. I am also stressed out right now! I'm trying to remember to breath, use positive affirmations, trying to focus on only what I have control over, remember to thankful for my blessings, etc. etc.

Kim,

I'm very easily overwhelmed/mind boggled...most of the time.

My first ferritin result was 29 (10-220), my AM Cortisol was 8 (7-25), that was early June. Can't wait to see what has improved since then. I know I'm a little better, just want to see in what ways I am better.

I just put a neon green post-it in my notebook, "Flu Shot?" Maybe I'll remember.

Carol,

Your ferritin is low. Needs to be over 70, closer to 90. AM Cortisol is

very poor. I've deleted a lot this week. He is treating your adrenals?
