Guest guest
Hi all, I am just now trying to learn about the adrenals and wanted to ask (and no, I don't have my grandson's lab sheets...but I think the high level was 25..the Endo uses adult tests on him) if a cortisol level of 14, drawn around 10:30-11 a.m. would be considered high? If so, which direction does a high reading go (hypo? or hyper adrenal?) I know the level rises in the early part of the day. The Endo, of course, said this is "normal". He also says taking Armour before labs doesn't matter (although my Internist and my daughter in AZ's Endo disagree, as does this board) but I think that was more an excuse to quickly convert him from Armour to Levoxyl....especially since he does not use the tests designed for children but, instead, uses adult labs. Jan (since I know you will read this :-))...while I like Dr Dattatraya in Irving because he IS treating him, I kind of feel like starting him on Armour was to placate me, knowing full well it was his intent to switch my grandson to Synthetic T4. The good news is that, he does only the TSH, and both Free Levels tests on him and his last labs suggest he is converting the T4 to T3, so he has left him on .25 mcg of Levoxyl. My concern is that on Armour, her grew 1/2 inch and did not gain a lb between his 1st visit and his 2nd. On Levoxyl, he again grew another 1/2 inch, but GAINED 8 lbs. So he is barely 12, is 5' 2 1/2" and is now 184 lbs....which means the weight gain overshadowed the height gain. He had his meds before labs, and because the test showed him at 4.5 (high range 4.2) he took him off Armour...that's when he told me it didn't matter if he took his meds before labs. His Free T4 was lagging well below Mid range on that test (Armour). I believe he could have possibly upped him just a little and Ian would have continued to level off or lose weight. So as you can tell, Grandma is not a real happy camper over the med change. Faye Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com
