Guest guest
IMO, I don't think I will get one. My Dr suggested that I do, but I think she is clueless on Hashimoto's. She thinks since I have an autoimmune disease, that my immune system is in high gear and able to fight stuff off. So she's clueless! I've had so many up's and down's that I don't want to freak my body out any more by having it try to fight off a flu shot. I think I'll take my chances and fight anything that comes my way. Besides, the flu shot only guards us against certain flu strains, not all of them! One year I did get the flu shot, and the flu! Guest guest
I always get one, but then I have COPD and my lungs can't take a bout with the flu. Guest guest
I get them, as I said, because of my COPD, but also because I had the flu once in 1084 and it darn near killed me! Guest guest
I had a flu shot last year as suggested by my hematologist. He thought that it would be better for me to get one than not. Well, that night I started feeling really bad and two weeks later I still felt bad. At this point I went to see my DO and she told me not to get the flu shot any more and I don't think that I will. > > > Should people with our health issues get flu shots? Guest guest
Is she getting the flu shot because the Government (or whomever was giving the seminar) scared the heebee geebee's out of her? Aren't we supposed to stay away from anything that boost our immune systems. Why would us Hashi's folks inject something into us that would boost our immune systems, when we are doing everything to stop it? It's all very confusing. So much so that I am going to stay away from the flu shot. I've worked way too hard these past few years, and don't want to jeopardize my health. I'm going to take this as a year by year case. Maybe when I'm much older, I'll consider it. And then again may not? Lynn This is an interesting question and I'd reallylike to see your feedback. I have never had a flu shot in my life and have always used homeopathy. However, for the last few years I have gotten sick with the flu every year. Dr. Ozan feels I need it and says it may even protect us from getting other things??? > > what does Dr. R say about this..does anyone know? > steph > > > --------------------------------- > How low will we go? Guest guest
Seeing people die from influenza pneumonia did it for me. I get mine every year, along with DH and both girls.
Guest guest
Have you ever tried the oil of oregano to prevent illness? I buy the Premier Research Labs Oil Of Oregano. I take 1-2 drops per day during the cold and flu season and I haven't had the flu since 1981 or a cold since 1993. *knock on wood* If I happen to get a sore throat, 6 drops 4x per day in some water and it's gone in no time at all. Guest guest
I am just a statistical sample of one, so my experiences, along with $3.95, will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I've been getting flu shots for many years, which gave me nothing other than a slightly sore muscle until I learned to relax my arm. I have no allergy to eggs. Every RN I've seen in the flu shot lines, and my own doc, repeat the mantra that if you get the flu after having a flu shot from the newer " killed " virus, you already had it in your body and were getting it anyway. When they had the old live virus, I remember getting sick, but I probably had the flu already even then. I've had flu shots all through my time of being treated for my hypo condition by Dr. , and I've been shot up with antibiotics for pneumonia and bronchial infections over the years, and my Hashi antibodies have been going down. I don't know enough about the immune system to be able to talk about the interrelatedness of it all. But I do know that I don't want to get the flu if at all possible. I shudder at the thought of dealing with being sick at all, and the time it will take to get over it. So I'm taking my doc's advice and getting the vaccine. I've called the physician who will be giving the vaccine to all our staff and caregivers to find out if they will get me the type without preservatives. I've never had one of those. What is the problem with the preservatives? Sara > > Aren't we supposed to stay away from anything that boost our immune > systems.
