energy for it after trying to help her out around the house and fix her meals a

couple of times a week... just curious.. Thanks... Vickie

Hi Vickie,

Chemo or comfort caps are caps that are knitted, crocheted or sewn for cancer

patients who are either have or are probably going to lose their hair. I am told

wigs are very hot so many wear the caps when going out or even sleeping so their

head won't get cold. (It's hard to think of cold right now) Knitting or

crocheting for me is therapeutic, as I am c are giver for my mother, so I need

the stress busters. It's easy to pick up your knitting or crocheting in the

evening or when you have a minute to relax. I'm still learning but I do enjoy it

and it's something I can do to help others while staying at home all the time.

They should be made out of soft yarn, but not wool I'm told, as some people are

allergic to wool... I hope I've answered your questions Vickie. Let me know.

oh okay... i know what you are talking about now... duh.... i ordered her one of

those off a website.. can't remember the name of it now.... it was really

cute... she was wearing a ball cap... it just wasn't her.....she also has a

wig.. but she doesn't like it because it is sooo hot to wear.. and she says it

keeps filling like it is just gonna pop rite off her head LOL that is a

wonderful thing you are doing... between trying to keep up with her.. and

myself... and my kids.... i sometimes find myself going in circles lol I am

trying to spend as much time as i can with her... because they don't give her

long... she starts chemo in two weeks i think... but she is going downhill

fast... how sad... this lady is actually my step-mom.. although i would never

say that in front of her... she has been more of a mom to me than my real mom.

she is one of those always happy bubbly people that just spreads a smile

whereever she goes.... she is a god send and will be missed

dearly..... i am just thankful that i had the pleasure of having her as a part

of my life....no i haven't given up on her yet... miracles do happen.... my dad

had a long talk with me the other day though.. and actually told me i needed to

let her go.... sorry.. can't do this yet... oh well.... always have had a

stubborn streak lol

Vickie,

What a blessing your step-mom has been. It's understandable that you don't want

to give her up until you have to. I wouldn't either. She sounds like a gem.

Good Morning !

Go to google.com and type in ''free chemo cap patterns'. You'll be surprised

how many come up! I like headhuggers.org

and lionbrand.com, but that's just two. There are pages and pages. I am not an

advanced crocheter so I stick to the basic patterns and vary my yarn. Speaking

of yarn, acrylic is best since it doesn't have to be blocked, is most durable

and machine washable and dryer dryable.

I also just heard about comfort pillows from a survivor. She said they were just

that 'great comfort' during her treatments. I plan to send them with each cap I

send out. They too are completely washable and dryer dryable. So little to do

but means to much to those suffering. I am sorry your little friend has to

endure this.

I was wondering about helping cancer patients in other ways.

I love to knit but the only thing i have ever tried is doing afghans. I just

started last year, but never finished it. I was on the very last row and when I

went to cast it off, I did it wrong so I had to start all over. I only know how

to knit and purl but I just love it so much.

Is there any way that you do knitting afghans at all for cancer patients?

Lou,

This winter I plan to make lapghans and baby blankets for preemies. Since I am a

very basic knitter and crocheter, I went to google.com and typed in free

beginner's crochet or knit patterns and many sites came up. I am slowly

learning and find that each time I make something from a new pattern, I have

advanced a little. Knitted baby blankets and preemie caps are a great thing to

donate to your local hospital. I really would think cancer patients would find

great comfort in an afghan of their own. Great idea !

I haven't knit since college but a little cap must be easier than a whole

afghan. Find out how to cast off and you'll be on your way to lots of fun and a

great way to give to people without straining your low energy.

I crochet and am making a cap for a lady. I plan to relearn how to knit when I

finish this, though.
