Guest guest
What dose of Armour are you on and how long have you been on it? What did your labs look like on the previous dose? What dose was that?Imelda Macias wrote: Other than lab work and doctor telling you, is there a way your body tells you when you need an increase in thyroid med. I wrote a post last week but got no responses. After being on HC for a couple of months I had been feeling "better" and all of a sudden I am fatigued again, have gained a few lbs., etc. Is it possible to "relapse" or need more of something all of a sudden? any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated, Imelda Yahoo! Guest guest
Imelda, I’ve never taken HC, but you are describing the way I feel when I know I need to have my bloodwork done for a possible Armour increase. I start to feel more tired than usual, start having more aches and pain, and the scale goes up a few pounds for no discernable reason. I also usually notice darker circles under my eyes and my hair seems more “frizzy” than usual. This is when I know to call and make an appt. with my doctor. I have always needed an increase when I have these symptoms. Sometimes it’s been a few months since my last adjustment and a few times, a year or more. The thyroid levels change quite a bit, especially with Hashi’s. Some years I’ve needed more adjustments than others. Hope this helps, Katy Imelda Macias wrote: Other than lab work and doctor telling you, is there a way your body tells you when you need an increase in thyroid med. Guest guest
I know this is pretty pathetic, but I'm on 30 mg (1/2 grain) of Armour. It's a small amount, but when this doctor (Dr. Grebennikov) started me, he started me on 120 mg. and I had a horrible reaction. Panic attacks, tachycardia, etc. and it was obviously too much for me to start with. Dr. backed me down to 30 and last time I saw him (1st week of March) he said not to increase yet due to the fact that my levels were slowly getting better and my temperatures had increased to a normal range. I'm more than likely going to give him a call and let him know that my temperatures have dropped and I'm feeling really hypo again.Jan wrote: What dose of Armour are you on and how long have you been on it? Guest guest
Thanks Katy, it sounds similar to what I'm experiencing, I bet I need an increase, I'm just terrified because I don't do to well with increases.Katy Deschenes wrote: Imelda, I’ve never taken HC, but you are describing the way I feel when I know I need to have my bloodwork done for a possible Armour increase. Guest guest
It took me about a year to increase to one grain (60 mg) of Armour from 30 mg. I also was increasing several other hormones and vitamins simultaneously, so each of those things took time. I'm getting ready to see Dr. R. in May, as I've now been on a steady dose of Armour for three months. I am also beginning to feel a slide backwards, but I am not Hashimoto's. I think the heat isn't helping. I hate the dose increases also, but I do enjoy the thought of feeling better. Best wishes-- Courtenay. --- Imelda Macias wrote: > Dr. backed me down to 30 and last time I > saw him (1st week of March) he said not to increase > yet due to the fact that my levels were slowly > getting better and my temperatures had increased to > a normal range. Guest guest
Other than starting low and increasing slowly, what is he doing for your thyroid hormone intolerance? Are you on hydrocortisone, estrogen, iron? It does sound like you are due for an increase. Imelda Macias wrote: I know this is pretty pathetic, but I'm on 30 mg (1/2 grain) of Armour. Guest guest
Then you may be able to tolerate a small increase. Guest guest
Most people do best with very small increases. I’ve even heard of people that increase by ¼ grain every second day. That’s how I plan to do when I increase again. Best of luck to you. -Katy From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of Imelda Macias Sent: Monday, May 01, 2006 1:52 PM To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: RE: How do you know when you need Armour increase Thanks Katy, it sounds similar to what I'm experiencing, I bet I need an increase, I'm just terrified because I don't do to well with increases. Guest guest
For folks who need increases that small, Dr. R prescribes compounded dessicated thyroid in 7.5 mg doses.Katy Deschenes wrote: Most people do best with very small increases.
