Guest guest
Don't have all of your records sent over from the old doc. Just bring copies of your labs. If the doc has made any comments on the labs, white them out and recopy. Don't mention anything about weight or depression. If she runs labs, ask for a hard copy of the actual lab report. wrote: Well, I am finally changing doctors. My old doc refused to try Armourand got squemish when my TSH got down to .7 . Guest guest
Dr H is my doctor and she seems very nice. She is not thin, so she may be more compassionate than other doctors. She will run a lot of tests to see if other things are going on as well. Regarding thyroid, she is more concerned about T3 and T4 staying in range at least with me. She seems to be a tiger when it comes to finding out why a person is not healthy. She listens to what you say you need and is willing to work with you. She will give you the time you need. I like her a lot. Good luck. wrote: Well, I am finally changing doctors. My old doc refused to try Armour and got squemish when my TSH got down to .7 . Guest guest
Well, I'm back from seeing Dr. Hartig. And the first thing I have to say about her is that I like her, she has a sense of humor. And second, she did put me on Armour 60mg. She told me to stay on the 5mcg of Cytomel as well. I was taking 125 mcg of synthroid. Does that seem about right? The conversion I mean? Anyway, I test again in 6 weeks. Now one thing that concerned me was that she said that she has some patients that feel great, but in her opinion they are overmedicatied which can lead to osteoporosis and those other things doctors worry about, and so she will cut their medication back. (she admitted that the patients didn't like this very much!) duh! So I guess I will see how things go with her. Thanks for the advise Jan,> Well, I am finally changing doctors. Guest guest
Keep us posted. It will be interesting to find out what she considers overmedicated. That is odd that she had you stay on the Cytomel when adding the Armour. Unless your conversion is extremely poor, it would have made more sense to start with 90 mg of Armour. The first time she mentions anything about concerns for your bone density, your response should be, "Well, then let's get a bone density scan to establish a baseline." wrote: Well, I'm back from seeing Dr. Hartig. Guest guest
It is scary that she is worried about the osteoporosis. I also worry if I am one of those patients who might get cut back, because I feel great and have a low TSH. I don't see her for a month or more. wrote: Well, I'm back from seeing Dr. Hartig. Guest guest
Dr. Hartig is in Webster, in the Clear Lake area. And Jan, that is a very good idea about the bone density scan. I took her my latest labs which were .79 TSH (.35-5.5) 1.02 freeT4 (.61-1.76) and 2.5 freeT3 (2.3-4.2). She did mention that she may be starting me a little low, and I didn't argue. I guess I was just happy at the time to be getting put on Armour. I can fight the battle of raising it when I get my results in 6 weeks. > > Where is Dr. Hartig? >
Guest guest
She is my doc too. I think if she worries about bone density and low TSH, I will suggest we have one done regularly. I had a base line one done several years ago before entering menopause. She has been on me about calcium supplements and I think I will calm her fears and even add some vitamin D to help calcium absorption. wrote: > Dr. Hartig is in Webster, in the Clear Lake area. > And Jan, that is a very good idea about the bone density scan. Guest guest
Can you ask your doctors if they will refer you to studies which reflect a higher incidence of osteoporosis in patients with suppressed TSH? Do the studies exist? > > > Now one thing that concerned me was that she said that she has some > > patients that feel great, but in her opinion they are overmedicatied > > which can lead to osteoporosis and those other things doctors worry > > about, and so she will cut their medication back.
