Guest guest
Ok...Someone asked me how big my 12 y/o daughter's nodule was so I called my doctor. They looked in the chart at her ultrasound results from last August. She told me that it was so small that the size wasn't listed??? (don't know if I believe that )But, we finished up with the RAIU today and I asked for a copy of the results. The larger nodule is 2.5 cm. and is a hot nodule. Only the right lobe is enlarged. The left lobe is normal. The 6 hr uptake was 31.7% (normal 5-15%)and the 24 hr. uptake was 55.8%.(normal 10-30%). All of her labs are normal. She has more symptoms of hypo, but isn't her RAIU suggestive of hyper? She finally did start her period after 39 days. (11 days later than normal for her)
Guest guest
My doctor did an ultrasound on me last week because he said I had a nodule on my thyroid. I have not heard back from it and all my blood work came back normal..so I am seeing a new doctor tomorrow...this is all still new to me..one reason I joined this group. Guest guest
2.5 cm is just about an inch. Hypo and hyper have a lot of overlapping symptoms. If she has low TSH, normal Free T3 and Free T4, occasional hyper symptoms, but hypo most of the time, then she may have an autonomous nodule, which spits out T3 from time to time and then goes back to sleep leaving her hypo. What does the doc say about all of this? Tina wrote: Ok...Someone asked me how big my 12 y/o daughter's nodule was so I called my doctor. Guest guest
The 24 hr uptake was just today, so her doc hasn't gotten a chance to see the scan or get the results. I asked to see the x-rays and they printed off a copy for me with the uptake info printed in the corner. Her TSH is low at 0.49 and her free T3 and Free T4 are normal. I think you are correct about the autonomous nodule. Her goiter gets bigger and smaller too. You can always see it (except when she was on Armour, it got smaller) but some days it is bigger and some days it is smaller. Can they treat this with medication if it is swinging back and forth? > Ok...Someone asked me how big my 12 y/o daughter's nodule was so I > called my doctor. Guest guest
Maybe, but probably not. Thyroidectomy is the usual solution.
