Guest guest
Hi : I have IBS! Some things I have learned from experience with IBS: (1) Everyone is different -- so you have to experiment with different things! Some people get bloated and constipated with brocolli (I used to!); other people experience no pain and are " regular " if they eat brocolli (that's me for the past 2 years! Weird, huh?) (2) Big salads are usually a " no-no " . Unless they have fiber in them, and even then, more than one bowl of lettuce can cause tremendous pain! I know many people who can not eat more than one small bowl of lettuce at a time! Otherwise, *extreme* pain! (3) You have to have a certain amount of fiber at *every* meal, and maybe even with snacks! One meal with fiber usually does *not* do the trick! (4) Try small amounts of fiber with each meal. I used to have a handful of " Cracklin' Oat Bran " at every meal, and a little for a snack, and it dit the trick! Then I would have a few " california " figs - (low in fat, high in fiber) at each meal, and 2 for a snack 2 times a day! That did the trick. Green beans have always worked for me as far as helping my food to move along my intestines nicely! (5) Stress is a very important cause of pain and backing up your digestion -- but other things are very important too! (6) Caffeine causes havoc with your intestines! (don't forget -- tea and coca-cola, pepsie, etc. also have caffeine! And so does chocolate!) (7) Alcohol also causes havoc with your intestines -- that was the worst one for me! (8) snacks (like nuts) with no fiber was a killer! Especially the greasy nuts! Oh, I thought I was going to die -- especially if I washed them down with an alcoholic beverage. (9) Try having a side dish of a nice green veggie with lunch and dinner -- green beans, or brocolli maybe. See if it helps. or - 1/2 slice of wheat bread at lunch -- or a whole piece, you have to experiment! Also (10) artificual sweeteners can cause havoc with your digestive system! Good luck ! Keep trying and don't give up! I am almost totally pain free! It acts up a few times a year, and usually when I have had too much coffee along with a lot of stress plus no fiber!
