Guest guest
To all I hope this may generate some interest........ I posted this on another Yahoo group, but I am sure all of you here will relate and HOPE for something like this in Texas. I know there are many camps out there, but I think Texas should have the best............at least it is in my heart Hi Cheryl, I must tell you that Camp Determination was a great bonding experience for and me. My son talked to me for two hours when we started driving home back to Dallas. He was explaining how he noticed other Autism Spectrum children and their differences. It was an incredible two hours of talking. PLEASE LET ME SAY THAT MY SON ( is AS/quiet type) HAS NEVER TALKED TO ME FOR THAT LONG IN ALL HIS 18 YEARS ON EARTH.........IT WAS SUCH A GREAT MOMENT. I think it was the best experience to hear him talk about Autism in very clear and deep thoughts.........I was so glad to hear it.....I was " verklempt " ......think Saturday Night Live On a very sad note, I lurk on the Kansas Autism Advocacy Yahoo group and they recently posted that the Asperger Autism Resource Center closed because of a LACK OF FUNDING. In other words, the very same people who sponsored this camp are NOW searching for new jobs. I am hoping that this Camp can continue. TO BE HONEST THOUGH I THINK TEXAS COULD SPONSOR A GREAT CAMP TOO FOR AUTISM LOVED ONES.....there are great places like Camp Summit (they are seeking donations for their new multi-million dollar camp further outside DFW) and Camp Marc ( got to go for his TAR syndrome <arms>). For those who don't know........Camp Marc is a wonderful facility with incredible log cabins and limestone buildings. The dining facility can host hundreds of families. It is wonderfully rustic, stunningly clean and Texan. My hope someday is to see a camp for Autism loved ones in Texas......right now I don't know of one, but it needs to be done........it is only a matter of time and money.
