I took a picture to the County Sherriffs office on Mason rd. They kept it

posted on the wall incase my son ever left the house. He managed to do this 5

times and everytime they knew who he was and came to our house to notify us.

Just a note- we need a database! I have some ideas! Anyone interested?

Don't wait 40 minutes to call- even if you child has a habit of hiding under

beds or wondering outside, if you can't find them in 5 minutes call the

police-please;)

If we had a database and when the police call, we could start calling families-

HINT HINT!! Faster service! Safer child! I know more children would be returned

home safely.

We have to be very careful about this and not make this public. There are a

lot of predators out there that they are looking for such a vulnerable

population. I suggest that such a list to be made confidential and maybe

only one person (maybe ) has access to it.

We moved to TX from CA and we took our All About Me

packet to the local police dept and asked them to

forward it to all the first responders in the area.

Most police depts will be very thankful for the info.

Also call your school district and see if the PTO will

help compile a list of names and then you can present

it directly to the police dept with the schools

backing. It seems to help if it is a community thing

and not just an " overproctective parent. " I am

currently in constant contact with my local police

dept. We are trying to get a list up and running-they

already have one for alzheimer's so the sargeant said

it shouldn't be that difficult to get a database set

up for children with autism. When we get it up and

running I would be happy to send all the information

out if anyone wants it.

Thanks,

Jenni

If you call the police every time your child is missing for 5 minutes

what prevents them from calling Child Protective Services to turn you in

for NEGLECT? One more thing that bears repeating is that everyone should

be looking into the push button mechanical locks for all of your doors.

With the cooler weather coming I know my son will want to be outside

more soon. He quickly learned how to flip switches and was trying to

find the right key to the reverse deadbolt when he escaped our home one

day when dad left the door ajar " Just for a minute " . He was gone for and

hour and half, CPS paid a surprise visit to all my children at school

and interviewed us later at home and accused us of NEGLECT. It was

terrifying and heartbreaking don't let your child fool you into thinking

they cannot unlock that door, get a mechanical lock that you can change

the code on and change it every few months. My locks are made by unican.

What is an " All About Me Packet " ?? Is this something you made up yourself or

did you get from the police?? Sounds like a great idea. We just finished

putting up a 6 ft iron fence with motorized gates around our entire 2 1/2 acre

lot...that and a German Shepard I am training to follow her around I pray will

do the trick, but I still feel it's important for authorities to have the info.

It's actually a file/packet we downloaded and filled

out and made copies of. If I can find the link to the

web site I will post it. If not I will scan the file

and post it later.

Hi again,

Here is the link to that packet. It's great and we

use it for babysitters, have sent it to school just in

case there's ever a sub or a new aide.

Hope this helps!
