i've heard this phenomenon mentioned more than a few times here on the list.

what exactly does it mean when someone says what their temp is...but that it

is the equivalent of something else?

oh, bother... there is just SO much to learn about this mischievous still's

creature!

=:-)

Hi ,

Yup, I know what you mean about the fevers. Oh my! I have been going

through this thing were my fevers are high in the mornings and not

in the evenings. But lately, my fevers have been hitting a high peak

of 99.8 which is pretty high for me, since my normal temp. is 97.4.

I don't know if I am flaring up again or something else. I feel your

frustration on this.

Believe me it is so frustrating with this heat and then getting

those fevers, it just drains me completely. And ruins my day.

And nope can't go dancing yet. lol Maybe when I am laying down in my

bed.

Sending you hugs and blessings,

Corpus Christi

Dear ,

Since my stills is pretty much managed with Kineret shots, I rarely have

fevers. But I do have the dizziness. Was really bad before I started using the

C-Pap . Just rolling over to my other side and I would get dizzy. But yes I

still get dizzy, don't know if its from the stills or another ailment or

possibly some of the medications we are on. I hope you get to feeling better

soon.

Hi ,

I just wanted to let you know that I still have fevers almost every day. Mine

usually start in the morning after I take my meds. They can last anywhere for me

from minutes to hours to all day. If my temp hits 99.1 I can tell I have a fever

before before taking it. Anything over 100 usually puts me right back in bed or

at least laying on the sofa till it goes away. I don't know about anyone else,

but I have had fevers that lasted all day. It drives me crazy along with

everything else this disease has to offer. So yes all day fevers are possible

with Stills. I don't want to say normal, but it is possible. Hope the fevers get

better for you.

Would it be normal with Stills to have a fever all day or

jsut the spiking kind?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Ah Yes! Equivalent temps = 98.6 is actually not all that common.

Most of us stilligans seem to monitor our temps so we know what

is " our personal normal " . Our " normals " can actually change some

throughout the 24 hours of a day. Body temp and metabolism is also

controlled by the Pituitary/thyroid glands and the Pituitary/adrenal

glands. So, our use of prednisone can muck up our circadian rythym

and " normal " temp.

My personal AM normal is 97.4 and in the evening, I feel normal at

98.1. So, in the morning, if I am running a temp due to a flair and

I hit 99.1,someone using a normal of 98.6 only has a low grade fever

0.5 degrees above their normal. With my normal of 97.4,

my " equivalent " increase in temp is 1.7 degrees above normal.

Relating that to 98.6, my " equivalent " temp is 100.3.

Utterly confusing, but we all seem to know when we are running

a " temp " , no matter what the termomometer says. In a nutshell, the

concensus seems to be that we feel like " crap " .

Hi Muffy!

My normal temp is about 97.2. So 100.5 for me would be the same as

102 on a " normal " person wtih a temp of 98.7.

A lot of us have low body temps.

Tom:

AMEN! To that one. We all know that even if the thermometer says no, we all can

tell.

Has anyone ever done a study on average temps of Still's patients? My

temp was always " normal " (98.6) until I got Still's. Now " normal " for

me is 96.1. I've almost completely tapered off prednisone this summer

(just on MTX and Enbrel now), so will check again once I'm off to see

if my temp goes back up.

If you look at the poll questions on our yahoo site, two are related

to temps--one on phantom fevers, the other on average temps. Looks

like most of us run low.
