Guest guest
YES, YES, YES!!!!! It is from the Pred! The same thing happened to me. It was awful. I had to start waxing my lip. Yuck!! The only thing I could suggest is to start plucking or waxing......lol....Since I have been off the pred it has stopped! But I still am waxing my lip. Take Care Sherry! Guest guest
Sherry, Yes Prednisone will do that and I just talked to my dermatologist about is as all the plucking is making my skin scab over and get tough. She recommended getting an emjoi hair removal device. I just won one on ebay, can't tell you yet how it works, but I know my doctor uses hers for her upper lip, I get dark black hairs on my chin and neck. Guest guest
The company sells them online at emjoi.Com, but the prices are better on ebay if you are willing to play the waiting game. Guest guest
>Dear Sherry, I guess you can see from all the replies that it is directly a undesireable side effect of the prednisone. May I ask you what dose you are on? My son is on 48mg of medrol (which is prednisone too) and he is only 16. He has been shaving for about a year now, but only his mustache area. Since starting prednisone six weeks ago, he has so much facial hair and has to shave all the time. It comes in like FUR on the sides and neck!!! Not pleasant for anyone, but at least a guy can shave! Good luck getting rid of it, but waxing should help. > Hi all. I have a question about Pred. This is actually directed to any women who may have taken it. I was wondering if it has caused anyone to start growing facial hair. I have hair starting to grow on the sides of my face and am not liking it. The only explanation I can come up with is Pred. I am not taking any other meds except aspirin. If anyone knows what could be causing this could you please let me know. Thank you. Also if there is a way that I can get rid of it without it coming in more prominent. Thanks again for any help and here's to a bright and dragon-free day to all. > Sherry >
Guest guest
Thanks to you all for responding so quickly. I am now on 40mg a day, just dropped from 60mg a couple of days ago. Since dropping though I have had more joint pain and muscle stiffness. The aspirin helps, but I can only take so much at a time. Can you recommend another med that can help with the discomfort? Let me tell you first that I have had a problem taking pills my whole life. I have a very small throat and even have to chew my food finely to get it down. If there is a pill about the size of pred. I will be able to take it. I put the pill in the center of a spoonful of applesauce and swallow whole. I do not like to crush pills because the chalky taste makes me sick and the docs tell me it's better not to. My docs don't really know what to do because I am such a difficult patient to give meds to. As far as liquid goes, I don't like cherry flavored anything. When it comes to shots I would do them as a last resort (I hate needles). I guess I am difficult. Well I supposse I would prefer a shot to the taste of chalk, so any help in the med department would be appreciated. Guest guest
This is not an uncommon response. See this link http://www.medicinenet.com/prednisone/article.htm For ways to cope, check out this humerous link but be sure to check with your doctor before trying anything suggested here. http://www.transweb.org/reference/articles/drugs/sideeffects/hair_mdavis.htm Hope this helps, Smiles, Carolinne tthe First, Empress of CUS ipcjogger@... wrote: Hi all. Guest guest
My daughter is six and has been on and off Prednisone since she was two. She started on 60 mg. a day when she was only 29 lbs. Of course she got to 52 lbs. in less than two months. She was on it for over a year that time and got the little " buffalo hump " on the back of her neck, osteoporosis, thinning of the skin on her face (you could see her little capillaries), she was irritable, and she did also grow little " baby fur " on her sweet little face. Thank GOD she's white blonde. She was losing the hair off her head, arms, and eyebrows, but for some ridiculous reason she wasn't losing it off of her face. Testosterone I think was the reason. However, you will be happy to know that as soon as she was weaned off it all went away, except for the osteoporosis. She's back on Pred now again 25 mg. a day and I'm noticing the tummy and cheeks already. Gotta go Missy ipcjogger@... wrote: Thanks to you all for responding so quickly. Guest guest
Hi Sherry. I have noticed that as well. I was taking Mtx until about a month ago. I noticed that since coming off mtx and just taking pred. I started having a little fuzz on the sides of my face. Not liking it either. I just keep my hair down.
