, since I've started the metho I have had the same problem, been weeks

late, and have even skipped before. My doctor told me not to be suprised if my

period stopped altogether. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Holly

Dear Group,

I was on Mtx when I started menopause and the stranges thing happened. My

stick straight hair started to curl! I am not kidding. I went from naturally

long straight hair to very short soft curl hair. My hairdresser said that

it happens a lot at menopause. Probably a way to air condition our heads from

all those hot flashes?? I have had more people ask me where I got my body

perm?

Funnny! About the air conditioning part, that is.:) Not there yet but

heard MTX can bring on menopause from other RA'ers, haven't researched

it or anything.

I had never heard of the. My sister lost a good bit of her straight hair when

on chemo for cancer. When it came back she looked like she had a good body

perm.

Thank you Ladies for all of your input on this matter.

Im defintaly not going through menopause (If I AM

we've got to talk about serious side effects from mtx

because I just turned 32!) But boy do I feel for you

guys who had to do all of it at once. I guess it is

no big deal if this late period thing becomes the

norm, it just makes for a couple scary weeks while I

wait for it. That " where's my period? " feeling is

never fun for an unmarried, 32 year-old gal....no

matter how safe I've been! And no, I am not in the

running to be married anytime soon, as my boyfriend

does not have insurance, therefor he is out of the

running. Just kidding.....sorta. (But if I can make

that joke to anyone, it is probably you guys.)

Thanks again,

p.s. my hair is still painfully striaght.

when I started om mtx, my periods became weird, too. They got much much

heavier- and then closer together, then farther apart, and even more heavy- and

right now they are so erratic it is very frustrating.

My gyne says no, I am not in menopause or even perimenopause, due to her

checking hormone levels. My old rheumy kept telling me it had nothing to do

with mtx. I have not brought it up with my new rheumy.

As for my hair? It began to fall out after my 3rd child, and it began to fall

out even worse after starting mtx. Again my old rheumy said it had nothing to

do with mtx. My gyne said it was simply the extra hair I had grown while preg

with last child.

I am not sure who to believe or what to think. I had extremely very very thick

hair, and it was wavy and now more than half of it is gone. I do not think it

is genetics, my mother and father both continued to have very very thick full

heads of hair and so did their parents and siblings. I miss my hair. :-(

Menopause certainly didn't curl my hair; it's still as straight as a

stick. But I didn't have hot flashes; maybe that's what curled your

hair, LOL.

well, I love love love hair, BUT I HATE HATE HATE pain, LOL. I have been on mtx

a couple years (off for a few months recently) but I decided if I go bald, I

will wear my bald head proudly, I earned it thru the pain and limits on my

abilities etc and I will be proud of living thru it all with a sense of humor

still intact.

My hair is long, down to my butt....my kids love to mess with it.....even if it

is half what it used to be. Giving up half my hair gave back more than half of

" me " so we deal with it here. and we try to LOL instead of cry. and I do keep

saying it is easier for them to comb my hair now that it is so much thinner.

upped the dose to 15 mg a week. It then started falling out by the headfuls. I

did 2 weeks at 20 mg and between fatigue and hair loss I decided to reduce the

mtx back down to 10 mgs and add another drug. At chemo dose level it is always

listed as one of the first side effects. I don't know what other drugs you are

on but many can cause hair loss. Also stress can cause hair loss also. Hope

you can make some adjustments andhang on to the hair. I wish I wasn't so vain

but I am. I like having hair-haa.
