Guest guest
Friends, a lot has been said about the blasts and how bad it must have been. Here is an E-mail which my mom's cousin Saylee Tilak sent me.. she is just 3 years older and we are very close... she commutes on the same route as to where the bomb blasts took place and she saw the death and destruction from close quarters. The E-mail speaks for itself... it just saddens me about the plight that so many people who are dear to us have to face... and all because of some radical insensitive human elements. Plus from what I heard our dear " netas " were adding to the chaos..... with " madam " visiting the areas in the middle of the night with a motocade of 35+ vehicles for added securities and the roads were closed adding the the traffic snarls.... what could a visit like this contribute to? Could a visit like this possibly calm people down? No...!!! Could a visit like this bring the dead people back? No..!! Could a visit like this contribute to mumbaiites reaching home at least on the same day ? No...!!! It just added to the chaos and the police instead of helping relief work, were deployed to protect the ministers... why, why why? What do they achieve by all this? The politicans win because now they " show " that they care about the people of Mumbai by arriving on the blast scene " pronto " and " interacting " with people for 30 seconds in the hospital and issuing a statement as to how sorry it is for the media.... well, they surely hit a home run in this... and they win....? who loses then? Its the people of Mumbai.. its the people who elect these people to the office and what do they get in return? Just a sympathy visit when something untoward happens...!!! The woes of the Mumbaikar will continue... they will continue to travel in trains packed like sardines.... they will continue to lose everything they have due to rains... they will continue to leave the house every morning uncertain whether rains or blasts will allow them to return to their loved ones in the evening... What keeps the city running is the spirit and never say die attitude of the people... these are the people who are called " rude " by Reader's digest... I say that these are the most wonderful people ever... irresepctive of caste, religion, socioeconomic status, Mumbaikars stepped up once again yesterday and helped everyone.. when the govt machinery could not get through.. Dont Mumbaikars expect to be treated more fairly by the authorities and lead a good life? Anyways... here is the E-mail.... sent by Sayalee to me.... this would give you a first hand glimpse of what people are going through... even though its short, the E-mail speaks volumes Ameet 1993 ************************** Hi Ameet, Thankfully we all r safe. There was just 10 minutes difference in the blast and me coming back from office. I am always on those stations on the same time in the evening. Yesterday got a train at 6.00 at andheri and blasts started from 6.10. I have been travelling on hte same route from last 3 years, but I never felt so insecure, worried, and sad as yesterday. It was too bad. 7 blasts in trains when the train was to reach at that particular station......There is no value for common man's life. Telephone lines were jamed, nobody was able to be connected to anybody, heavy rains at the same time, death & blood everywhere on those stations, it was simply pathetic. But mumbaiates are real great people. Within 12 hours mumbai is back to normal, helping each other whichever way it can, being on toes for eveything, accepting all calamities, blasts, everything with great spirit, courage & smile on face. Bravo to all. Dont worry now, & keep in touch. I am leaving for Gujrath for office assignment tomorrow night, & will be back on 18th, So see u on 19th. Bye Dear, Saylee. ************************************** -- Ameet Chimote BMS PhD program, Year 3 Cell Biophysics Group ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 048 Biological Sciences State University 3640 Colonel Glenn Hwy.
