Guest guest
Dear all, MGIMS has always had a glorious sporting history.MGIMS has provided many of the finest sportsmen to the university.People like Girish bhai mehta always keep on mentioning about the various sportpersons of the yester years. Today was the occasion of the final cricket match between our batch and 2003 batch where our beloved and respected Dr. Dilip Gupta sir was invited as a chief guest, he also enlightened us with the various sporing activities in the past. But now a days our cricketing standards have fallen to a great extent. PEople hardly think of playing with the leather ball partly due to all the boring formalities that are reqired like issuing the cricket mat and gear and partly due to lack of interst amomg many of the junoirs.Apart from a few, People now a days take least interest in any of the outdoor games like football ,cricket. Last year the organising batch 2001 didnt even turn up for the football match. This year also many people mnay people opposed us for keeping football in the iternary. But we are proud that our batch is the most entusiastic among the lot present here. Even in the final year when most of the batches give up playing and all, our batchmates are always keen on playing. When ever we practice for cricket about 15- 16 people are ready to play whhile in the other batches presnt here hardly any one practices. When we were the junoirmost batch here , it was the traditon in mgims that the organising batch will always win the match against the juniormost by any means.I distinctly remember 98 batch was full of excellent cricketers and now it is our batch that is full of excellent cricketrs. When we were juniors our first match was with 99 batch our organisers and we were written off a week before the match by all our seniors and girls of our class. But won the match so convinsingly, (70 runs)that seniors dint even had any scope for manipulation. We won the cricket trophy that year. But i must say that 2001 has always given us a tough competition the only time we lost to them was last year final. That game was so close that it could have swung the either way at the last moment.During our second year also we had beaten them on the last ball of the match , on which we were requiring 3 runs and i myself cleard the boundry. Today evrey one of was very sad because this was the last time we were playing together . Just imagine how we all cricket lovers must have felt when they were knowing that here after we are no longer going to play together. We were up against a good side i.e. 2003 batch. We started off well our opners did a good job managing a haelthy run rate of 6 till the 10th over but then the collapse stared we only managed 85 in alloted 16 overs. Pitch oplayed a great rolr in our collapse ,it was so dusty that the ball wasnt even risin the knee roll and some times it was kicking above the head of the batsmen,We knew that it was not going to be a easy total to chase on a wicket like this. our two openining bowlers bowled a fiery spell. at the end of 6th over score was 13 runs and 2 wickets. after that it was my turn . we all maitained a good line and length. fieling was superb every one was diving round .But catching stealed the show so many excellent catches were taken that we were able to restrict them to 59 at the end of 16th over. once again 2002 guys did it.we won the cricket trophy 3 times in our stint of 4 years. We all still feel bad about losing game against 2001 batch. this match was a very contoversial one, many contoversial decisons were made against us. Sadly MUHS, nashik has not included cricket in there sporting calender other wise many of our batchmates would have made it up tpo the uiniversity levels. But we have kept representing MGIMS in many of the local tournaments played here and have done quite well. Now we can just hope that our juniors keep on showing the same respect and dedication to this greatest of all games i.e " CRICKET " . MY account will be incopmlete if i dont mention the names of cricket champs of our batch 1) Anil Godara(captain): opening batsman ,has great hand eye co-ordination, plays extra vagant strokes . he has hardly ever failed in any of the match 2) TArun rao : stylish opening batsman with grat technique . He is also one of the strike bowler. he surely would have made to university level. 3)Firoz borle: all rounder. right arm pacer generally bowls ats ist change. 4) Akash ranjan: all roundder. he has a congenital anaomly, he doesnt have fingers on right hand but this hasnt dampened his spirits. He is a fast bowler . left hand barsmen and one of the mostagile fielder on the park. he has even played on pre ranji level. 5) Gaurij hood: rigt arm bowler . never fails because he is imppecable in his line and length. 6) Ramesh pawar: batman comes at i down position. he is a hard hittin batsman and plays many unconventional strokes. We all call him " BHUVAN " . 7) Sanjay nanotkar: rigt arm bowler, did wondwrrs with his outswingers in the last match. 8) Satish BAhekar: he is one of the best closing fielders we have. unfortunately he could not paly in the finals because he met with an acciedent few days back and is covered in pplster and has his teeth wired. 9) Chandra mohan: rigth arm orthodox spin bowler 10) Pradip borkar 11) Jai bhagwan 12) Swapnil patond: Dr patond's son. excellent out fielder and slogger. That concludes my account, hope that brings some recognition to the unsung heros of our batch. firoz,02 __________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
