[ ] Gastric distress I have had two MTX injections so far and since the first have had alot of problems with my stomach (besides the nausea and vomiting). Has anyone else suffered with this with MTX? Finding your post was obviously nice to see and pretty coincidental. I have been on oral mtx since February and have only recently been developing stomach problems. My gastric issue isn't so much nausea and vomiting but abdominal pain/ discomfort, super bad heartburn in the back of my throat and a difficult to describe sort of " hunger pain " when I am not really hungry. Are you having any of these issues? I have thought about calling the rheumy to start getting injections but haven't gotten that far yet. I have been taking them orally for about 2 weeks and have noticed that I have more queezy feelings. I don't get nauceous or vomit, but quite queezy and I too have dealt with the hunger pang that you talk about. I have indulged in eating something just about every hour to help aleviate it. It is only a temporary fix. However, I had the same thing while on the injection program, but not to the same extent. I wonder what's causing it. My gastric levels seem to be ok. I'm not suffering too much there. I hope you start to feel better. It's awful to have to take a drug that makes you feel worse after taking it to help you feel better. lol. I read about GERD following Cheryl's earlier suggestion and that sounds like it could be a potential cause. About your other posting, I am sorry to read about your RA not being under control. Personally, I was on oral mtx and prednisone for approximately 2.5-3 months when I started feeling relief and it took quite a bit of ramping up on the dosages before my doctor and I found the right balance. I do believe however that my blood work was reflective of declining inflammation. My advice would be to listen to your body and your heart. If you don't feel like your doctor is being responsive and you are concerned then I would speak up. I definitely understand how you are feeling and was in your place not too long ago. It is a tough road. It is frustrating and scary but you'll make it out the other side just make sure you take care of you and demand the care and attention you deserve. Guest guest Posted December 6, 2006 Report Share Posted December 6, 2006 Not only is it costly, but my doc told me that reducing the acid level in your digestive tract TOO much leaves you open to infections. I take Nexium to protect my stomach from the Diclofenac and prednisone I'm taking. But she had me reduce my does to every other day as soon as possible. Guest guest Posted December 7, 2006 Report Share Posted December 7, 2006 I've been taking Prilosec OTC for a long time, and it is certainly a valuable med even if it is over the counter. I tried one pill every day or two but found out that if I take one half of a pill every day, it works much better. I open one package and break all the pills and put them in a bottle with an air-tight cap. When we fill our pill cases for the week, I put a half in each morning bin. It keeps the protection more constant and if there's an acid attack, a Rolaids fixes it. We buy the big box of 3 packs for less than $25 and it will last for 3 months.
