Guest guest
Hi , Yes, I've taken Provigil also. I did find it helped with the sleepiness and somewhat decreased the fog. It was also VERY expensive and not covered by insurance for ME/CFIDS, so my doc is giving me samples. I had to start out at very low dose and work my way up to 100mg a day. You can take up to 200mg, but I haven't gotten there yet and may not. Good Luck! Jane nanc3p0 wrote: Yesterday I began taking Provigil (modafinil)put out by Cephalon, Inc., to help sleepiness. This drug is said to help with sleepiness. I normally reject prescription drugs but I will give this a 3 week trial and see if it helps keep me more alert during the day. I have been advised by the Nurse Practitioner at my doctor's office that it may help. I am to take it with breakfast each day. Perhaps others have information on this drug. Guest guest
I took only 1 dose of it and my heart began racing out of control...I had to go to the er at the local hospital. They told me I was extremely sensitive to it so to cease taking it. They also told me not to take any decongestants.
Guest guest
These are samples of 200 mg and they have made me dizzy and nauseous. How alert can you be if you are dizzy? I wouldn't take them if they were not samples and I will probably not take any more. How did you take it and did it take time to become effective? It seems to me that it didn't keep me awake but I was miserable all day with the side effects. Re: Provigil (modafinil) Hi , Yes, I've taken Provigil also. Guest guest
Which comes back to my standard stance on prescription drugs. They often cause more trouble than they help. Guest guest
Hi, Decongestants do the same thing to me...I never take them, I never take any of the over the counter cold meds... Guest guest
Well , I started by breaking my samples into 4 pieces, (50mg each) and took 1 in the am, then 1 in the afternoon (around lunch) so it wouldn't keep me up at night. I noticed this lessend those effects. Like I said, I don't think I'll ever work up to 200mg, even tho the doctor thinks I should....I think that is too much, at least for me and maybe for you too! I noticed a clearing of the brain fog within a couple of days, and the vertigo subsided some - although I have suffered vertigo occasionally throughout this disease, so it's hard for me to tell sometimes, ya know? I know I don't have the daytime sleepiness as bad. You know how it is, sometimes we trade one symptom for another, I guess it just depends what you are willing to put up with...... Hope this helped and hope you can find your path, Jane Engel wrote: These are samples of 200 mg and they have made me dizzy and nauseous. How alert can you be if you are dizzy? Guest guest
Hi! I'm new here and tend to be a lurker, but I tried Provigil 3 years ago and it bottomed out my BP to the point of becoming unconscious. My sister takes Provigil to help her stay awake during the day. I am very sensitive to a lot of meds. I was recently diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. Not bad for most people but I am symptomatic and take meds. This diagnosis explained why my heart had been having pounding episodes, why I had been having anxiety and panic spells, and why I had chest pain. My doc told me to avoid cold meds because they would increase my heart rate.
Guest guest
Hi : I tried Provigil for about 4 days and went off it. Within a 1/2 hr of taking it, it made me feel so alive. I just wanted to clean the house and was so pumped up. Then about 5 hrs. later I had extreme fatigue. It was such a big letdown and didn't cope very good with. I wanted to go to bed. Then by the third day I lost my appetite. As soon as I stopped it, I got my appetite back. My doc said alot of MS people take it for their fatigue and works real well. When I was talking to Dr. Bell I told him about that. He said he had done studies on that with his patients. He said for his CFS patients, it didn't work. Guest guest
Thanks, Lou, I haven't heard one positive report on Provigil. I lasted 2 days with it.
