Hi everyone...

My 2 year old daughter is being treated for asthma, and now,

allergies. Her doctor prescribed a 2 week trial of Zyrtec, which I am

nervous about. I hate adding yet another medication (she takes a Qvar

inhaler 80mcg, singulair and Xopenex as needed). However, this most

recent cough has lasted over a month, especially prevelant at night.

(some nights better than others). Anyway, I freaked myself out by

looking up Zyrtec on the internet and people seem to report behavior

changes in their children on it . Anyone have any experiences to

share?? Please please please :)

Thanks!

,

I just wanted to let you know that my two and a half year old son has been

taking Zyrtec for about 5 months now (along with several other meds) and I

have not notice ANY side effects from it - not even the sleepiness that I

believe can be common with taking it at night. There were even two separate

occasions when I had to stop the Zyrtec for several days (so that he could

have allergy skin testing done) and then resumed it. I did not notice one

bit of difference in him. The bonus is that the liquid version is actually

tasty to him. My kid actually looks forward to getting his " shot " (from a

medicine syringe) of Zyrtec each evening. It also comes in a chewable

tablet which we have not yet tried. He also enjoys eating his chewable

Singulair tablets. Does yours?

I, too, was in shock at first when the Asthma/Allergist handed me four RX's

for him at once. I introduced them one at a time and he did fairly well

adapting to the mix. I just asked his doctor when we can back off or reduce

some of these meds and he said he wanted to wait until July since this is

the peak of one allergy season and June is peak for grass! Anyway, here is

at least one kid who has no problems with taking the Zyrtec. Let us know

how it goes if you decide to try it.

Good Luck!
