Guest guest
Allie is taking her medicine! When she got sick I took her down to her DAN! She is in love with him, it's so cute. He prescribed amoxicillan, so it's pretty good-tasting, but all she will eat are harder foods. The first time it took over 2 hrs of me talking, pleading, and trying to force. Then I called my friend Tara, put her on speaker phone, she prayed over us, then had her daughter with autism, Allie's best friend, say hi. She told Allie that was taking medicine too. Finally Allie took it down. The next morning I prayed over us, she wouldn't budge. I called Tara again, it didn't seem to work. Finally she took it. Last night I timed us, she took it after 26 minutes of coaxing, then I finally told her I was going to get her shot, she took it. This morning I told her if she took it we'd go to the mall, see Santa, and ride the train. She sucked it down immediately! Tonight she protested a little, I told her she had to take it so Santa would come and bring toys, she sucked it right down. Looking back, I'm trying to figure what worked. I think one thing was obviously prayer. The second thing, I tried to build trust instead of forcing. Another thing, I tried to stay really positive and tell her over and over that I understand it's yucky and hard, etc. I think my constant telling her that her doctor wants her to take it helps, too. I also told her the alternative is a shot, she is not wanting a shot at all. I also was able to get her to kiss the tip of the syringe with the med, that helped her body learn the texture and taste of it so that it wasn't so overwhelming to her. At one point she said, " I don't know how! " when I told her to take it. I explained it was like drinking water. Made me wonder if she really doesn't understand the mechanics of eating foods other than harder foods. If we can get her to start taking med by syringe, this opens the door BIG TIME to getting her back on some good supplements!!!! I think my next step is to try and get the emulsified omega oils. At any rate, Merry Christmas and I have to praise God for opening Allie's body to take her medicine!!! Debi
