Guest guest
Beth, hi. My name is Judy and I am new to the list. Is there any way for you to take Beth to a specialist? Maybe her pediatrician has some suggestions as well. Judy ok, a little background first Beth is in two different schools. She is in an ECDD class 4 days a week and in a reg ed preschool class two afternoons a week. In early December, she got her hearing and vision tested in her ECDD class and we got a note back that she did not pass her hearing test. I blew it off thinking she just didn't do it. well this week she was tested in her reg ed preschool. I talked to the teacher, she failed the hearing part again. Her teacher said that she co operated. The teacher didn't tell the testers about the autism. After the test was done she made sure that they new she was autistic to see if that had anything to do with the results, they said no. Here's the thing, should I worry? We've never had issues with her other than her selective hearing. When she is so engrossed in something. I don't think there is anythign wrong, but will we have issues getting her enrolled in Kindergarten becuase of this. Any advice or ideas are welcome. Guest guest
We had to take our daughter to the Childrens Hospital where they have a special room to test hearing with kids that have developmental delays and autism. She has no hearing problems according to the childrens hospital. She did not pass the traditional hearing tests in the schools because I believe she did not understand what they wanted from her. Just my experience. Hope they can find another way to test your daughter to find out for sure. Guest guest
Hi! We also had to take our daughter to a special room for hearing tests done at our local children's hospital. She had to wear special headphones and was given a different type of test. This was only done after she had also failed the regular hearing test at her pediatrician's office because she didn't understand how to take the test. You should have a hospital that can provide this test. Diane ('s Mom) Vision and Hearing Screening ok, a little background first Beth is in two different schools. Guest guest
Crystal, those family docs are the best kind. That's what I have for my daughter, she was diagnosed with Asperger and sensory dep. disorder. He has been wonderful. I will pray for you and your daughter. Judy Right now it has to wait, DH is unemployeed and we have no insurance. Once we have insurance I'll be looking into a Ped (we just had a family dr before) who specializes in dealing with Autistic kids. judysdaisymae@... wrote: Beth, hi. Guest guest
I didn't like ours. It was a training place for residents, so every year we ended up with a new Dr and NONE of them knew anything about autism, I ended up having to explain it to them. judysdaisymae@... wrote: Crystal, those family docs are the best kind. Guest guest
A hearing test to a child with Autism, that is hystericial! You need to get an ABR test at a Children's hospital. They put you to sleep and hook you up to electrodes and send the signals and your brain registers if it hears or not. That is so funny! A hearing test. Sorry, but this only illustrates HOW much they really need MORE education on Autism. Guest guest
My daughter now 15 was about 15/16 months old when she went to the Newington (CT) Children's Hospital for the ABR test. Since she was just a toddler they wanted me to administer her sedative suppository style, to get her to sleep. Did it, wasn't pleasant for her, and SHE FOUGHT it. They couldn't do it. Brought her to the Hospital AGAIN, for standard hearing test in booth....didn't work either.... Then AGAIN brought her to UCONN in Farmington to have another audiologist do it, again in the hearing booth...and this woman was ABLE to determine that was able to hear. She was correct!! So it was trial and error basically. She was almost 2, so it took five or so months between all these apointments to FINALLY be able to determine if she could hear to make her final autism diagnosis possible.
