When my daughter was gone this weekend Seth had a tough time too. The girls always play at the tub with him and play in his room with him before THEY tuck him in. He likes it that way and the girls love doing that. He has a full size mattress set on the floor so they all jump and roll around together and have a good time. LOL He wouldn't budge at bath and bedtime without my daughter here over the weekend. LOL He has his little routines for everything he does. Even the way a tape has to go in the VCR. He does much better in a place that he has not set a routine at. It's much harder on the caretaker though, and with his pica I don't have many choices of safe environments to chose from. I may have to chose my daughter over Seth this weekend and just have someone come here and deal with his little obsessions. I don't know if it's worth it to get away and spend the whole time worrying about Seth though. Maybe my best bet is to whether out the traveling thing with Seth and just try and teach him to not knock over lamps, blast the TV and play with the phone and heat/ac buttons. Hardest part is having him climb on our heads and hump them all night while we're trying to sleep! LOL How bad would I be if I took a large size dog cage and put Seth in it for the night? LOL JUST KIDDING!!!!!!! LOL Gail

Guest guest
I don't see it as you chosing one child over another, it's just that you have to do things differently. But I do know how you feel, my son had to suffle things around because of his sister, but we talked about it and I let him know that he was just as important as she is and now that he's grown, he looks back and says it wasn't that bad. :-)
Guest guest
Oh Gail, I'm sorry...I know that feeling and that's the one that can bring me to tears. it's so hard to want to be everything to everybody especially our kids...It's lucky that kids seem so resilient and can make the best out of things. I hope you find a spot for Seth next weekend ... i'll keep my fingers crossed. too bad we all didn't live in one big commune...could help eachother out! congratulations on how well your daughter did...i'm sure you are very proud. remember even though you weren't there for this meet, YOU gave her the opportunity, right? happy/sad weekend Doesn't happen very often, but today I am feeling bad. My daughter had a gymnastics meet this weekend and I couldn't go because Seth doesn't do well at motels at all! Another family took her for the weekend. She had a great, fun time and brought home a 3 foot trophy, 2 gold medals and 7 ribbons. I missed it. :-( Wish I could clone myself so I could do everything. I have to make a harder effort to find a place where Seth can stay overnight. Not that my daughter missed me! LOL She had a wonderful time and asked if she could go with this family next week too. That makes me even sadder! LOL I've always been able to work things out so I never had to chose one kid over another. This traveling crap stinks!!!!!!! I've got 5 whole days to find a place for Seth to stay next weekend. Well, I've always loved a challenge! Found out tonight that my daughter's meet is at 1:00 pm next Sunday, so we can drive there in the morning and get home about 10 at night. YIPPY!!!!!!! Don't know how they got that time slot. It's always 8:00 am for their group!!!!! Thank you God!!!!!!!! Thanks for the ear and sympathy.....sad to say I needed that! I hope my kids turn out as nice as your son and realize that I'm doing my best. I'm feeling sorrier for myself than I am for my daughter I think. I wanted to be there, even if she didn't care whether I was or not. LOL Wow, there sure are a lot of *I's* in this post! ...I guess, I hope, I'm feeling, I think, I want!!!!!!! (remember dh got this trip for work he did for friends----he saved their company and wouldn't take $$, so they did this). We are VERY lucky Gail, as I always say. But I do believe that at some point, Seth will be able to do the hotel/travel thing!!!! Maddie and Seth have SO much in common, and look at what she's able to do now, that she couldn't do before!!!!! Hang in there girlfriend!!!!! And thank God your daughter is such an understanding wonderful young lady!!! Donna >> Thanks Donna, I would never give up hope! DW is sure an expensive place to go. We went for 6 days on $6,000 last time we went. Of course, we did everything we wanted to do and never blinked an eye. But, we are talking 14 years ago, so we would probably only get 3 days for that amount of money today! LOL So glad it is working for Maddie. I guess the only way it will work with Seth is if we do it often. Hmmmmm, sounds good to me! A weekend get-a-way every weekend until he can handle it! I booked a room for Saturday. If dh has off work, he will stay home with Seth. If he works, I get to take Seth and the girls for the weekend by myself! LOL Quite the game of russian roulette I'm playing! LOL Spending Sunday night at my daughter's place and will return home Monday afternoon. Wish I had a laptop so I could keep up with the list while I'm gone. Don't know which will be harder. Taking Seth away for the weekend, or going cold turkey with the list! LOL Gail- just doing it!!!!!!!! LOL
