Guest guest
Hi , I apologize for the late response. I was on vacation. My dear wonderful sister gave me a vacation in FL as an early BD gift. The answer to your question is yes. The therapist should be making up your son's therapy time. I would simply sent her a note asking when she will be making up the x amount of service time that your son had not received on those specific dates. If she does not respond in a reasonable amount of time then I would send a letter to the principal,cc the sped director, with a copy of your note sent to the therapist. It is best to have your request in writing than a telephone call. You will have your paper trail and valid documentation that you made the request for services that your son did not receive. If you do not receive a response from the principal in a reasonable amount of time then you should file a state complaint attaching your letters as documentation along with the IEP page that documents the therapy services and time. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 17 DS Subject: Make-ups for Therapeutic Services To: " " < > Date: Friday, October 22, 2010, 5:09 PM Â Hi Everyone, If anyone has had experience with the following (Charlyne, I bet you know the answer or could direct me to the right resource), I would appreciate it: has missed a few individual speech sessions at school this year because the therapist was absent and so far, they have not been made up. I was told by a friend that school would be breaking a federal special ed. law if these sessions were not made up, since 's IEP says that he is to receive a specific # of individual sessions per week of PT, OT and SP. What's the point of an IEP anyway if it's not being followed, lol?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Can this law be found in " s Law " ? I realize that the reverse would not be true (if were absent), as the therapist has specifically put aside the time whether is there or not. That sounds reasonable to me. It sure would be nice if those sessions could be made up though (esp. if other kids are absent), but I realize I ask for too much! It's too early in the school year for admin. to start this nonsense. This happened a few times last year, but in all honesty, I was just trying to get through each hour because of my cancer surgery and chemo treatments. The school was lucky last year, lol, they got a break, but I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack!!! I've been directed by the SP to get in touch with the principal and she is notorious for playing " telephone tag " , despite my requests to set up a specific teleconference that is mutually convenient, so this game doesn't go on for 2 weeks.......arghhhhhhhhh!!! I'm thinking of e-mailing her and the whole admin. world at the school and board of ed.......I would love to play " lawyer " and show what a smartie-pants I am (in a diplomatic way of course) by citing a specific fed. law that their in violation of. Law and Order Very Criminally Intent, here I come!!!! I appreciate any feedback and thank you all for your support and wisdom!
