Guest guest
nathan too has used miralax for years, after we started using it he became potty trained but now his medicaid wont pay for it, unsure why as theyve been using the generic form for at least a good year now. He has insurance that would pay most of it for us but the doctor says why pay for something if we can get his medicaid to. so we are trying the lactalose, at first i was worried he didnt go for 4 days and then all of a sudden hes been going daily again. So it looks like it will work at least for nathan. shawna
Guest guest
Adam's medi'cal will not pay for mirlax either, but... we have something called a TAR I think its pretty much a request for payment from medical. I found out by our pharmacy about this after a year of paying for mirlax. Its just a though,,, maybe your state has something simaliar (just in case) also how did you potty train on mirlax, doctors told me I have to wait till Adam is off his meds, which could be years. I would love to start potty training. michelle
Guest guest
well like most parents we started potty training at 3yrs of age. first we got him mostly scheduled trained during the day. but he never quilte got it on his own. we went through the gauntlet of stuff to hlep him with his constipation, and fianlly after seeing a GI peds doc he suggested miralx, and after a few days of taking it he started going in the toilet on his own some, including peeing, when he 9-10yrs of age--- and just kept buliding from there. Granted he occasionally has an accident but he usually doesnt want to leave the activity he is doing, and then about half the nights as of yet, when im home (i work nights 3on, then usally 2-3 or more off) i usally stay up pretty late to stay on my schedule, and i will wake him around 2am to go pee and this helps, and he also wears a depends and has a cloth incontinent pad on his bed under his sheet to protect it. shawna
Guest guest
Liz, I hate to hear Tori is having a tough time. After my daughter was born I was constipated and that is miserable. The Dr. had me drink something that made me go. The suppositories only constipated me more. get constipated if he does not eat oatmeal in the mornings. The Docs have me give him ducolax. Now I heard this can make your stomach cramp. Make sure she eats things with fiber like beans, oatmeal, etc. The doc told me milk is very constipating. like Tori loves chocolate milk I buy a couple of gallons a week. You know Liz ever since had that cellulitis his behavior has been different. Like behaviors I have not seen since before he started the Risperadal over a 1year and 1/2 ago.At the same time the neuro surgeon started him on Zoloft his behaviors changed. I have stopped the Zoloft because the Phy said it can make some people mean.I am thinking that it is time to increase the risperadal. Ya no Liz sometimes the meds stop working and have to been changed. Does Tori take any meds? Forgive me I cannot remember.I have a friend and her mother is bipolar/manic. She was on Lithium for years and recently was switched to tagratol and risperadal and they still cannot get her settled down. When the meds are working she is very normal but when the meds stop look out.You and I both know our children and when they do not feel good their behaviors do change so maybe it is her stomach/constipation or maybe it is the new classroom because lets face it our kids hate change. Guest guest
Liz- We have used Miralax for several years with our son DJ. He is chronically constipated and with his lack of muscle strength I['m not sure if he could go on his own over the long haul. You can request this from a GI doctor. And yes, sometimes government insurance won't pay (in California we have MediCal, I guess it would be Medicaid elsewhere and it may require a TAR or treatment authorization request, which my pharmacy sends in to MediCal for prior authorization to get our son medications not on the regular formulary) Miralax doesn't seem to cause any cramping for DJ, though I'm not sure he would tell me. When it is particularly hot or he doesnt get enough water in we sometimes, under Dr's orders, have to increase his twice weeekly dosage to everyday until the obstruction is cleared. I am so sorry Tori is not herself. A lot of changes in her life AND constipation. We are praying for you. Donnell > > Tori was having a good week until last Friday in 1st grade. Guest guest
Donnell: I don't remember you from the site, therefore! Welcome! And thanks for your input. Miralax is the meds the dr. put her on. I just couldn't remember the name. Unfortunately it is not working quickly. She had a BM yesterday in school, and a tiny one last nite, but I know she must be really backed up. She is an excellent eater (constantly eats). I am waiting to see what takes place today, and if nothing, I will call the dr. and ask about a suppository just to get her cleaned out. Liz Re: Ok, I need a lot of finger crossing-PLEASE! Guest guest
I give my daughter Miralax for constipation, it works great! Just a capful of the powdery stuff into any fluids you give her and boom! That stuff really works. Ok, I need a lot of finger crossing-PLEASE! > Tori was having a good week until last Friday in 1st grade. Then all hell broke loose once again. Yesterday she had an awful morning. Guest guest
Hi Liz, Has Tori tried Miralax and flavored soy milk yet? I swear it made such a difference for . Despite all the fruits/veggies and fiber foods I was giving him, he had such a hard time with bowel movements. 1.5 teaspoons of Miralax is an absolute " miracle " for . It's a stool softener- not a laxative. Dr. Capone told me that so many of the children that he sees are on it - not uncommon at all. Also- the " Silk " very vanilla soy milk was an instant hit- more calcium and vitamins than regular milk, without the potential constipating properties. Just some thoughts- hope Tori feels much better soon. Guest guest
has been on Miralax too for years. We do get ours paid for by Medi-Cal too in CA. All her meds are free, since she has dual coverage. Woo hoo! But for her, she needs 4 to 6 teaspoons a day for it to stay somewhat regular!
