No one seems to have a clue. She drinks so fast and gulps it down that I am beginning to think part of it is that she doesn't give her body time to realize it has been watered and part maybe it's something she can do for herself and part is that she loves certain drinks (sunny D for one) and so she goes for taste. I just don't think she knows when enough is enough. Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha! If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you've always gotten. Believe me I have questioned all this many times over the last 5 years or so. The blood tests come back normal. Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha! Guest guest
Carol I was curious about the excessive drinking. I have a friend whose DS son drinks water all the time. He will be 45 this year and is now having problems with urinary incontinence. From what she tells me all medical areas have been checked out and are OK except for not emptying his bladder completely and he is on a med for that. Guest guest
Maybe someone else has some input from experience on this. Guest guest
Hi ~ I know this may not be the reason for the excessive drinking, but wanted to mention that prior to Dylan being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes he drank excessively....which was one of the warning signs. We are talking like major drinking....cup after cup after cup. Was having lots of accidents too...due to the excessive drinking & what we later found out was high blood sugar. I don't want to scare anyone & have them think this is the reason, but it might be something worth checking into if you haven't before. (and let me tell you....I don't wish this darn diabetes on anyone!!!) Becky mom to Dylan, 10, DS/ADHD/Diabetes & whatever else.. Csvillars@... wrote: In a message dated 1/17/2006 12:04:59 P.M. Guest guest
loves to drink lots too, hes checked out routinely. UIHC says its because he is a mouth breather and loses so much water exhaling, which makes him ofcaurse thirsty, but also in manybooks on autism they say they drink ots and often too, didnt say why that i recall. We limit the fluids after 8pm otherwise he wets the bed, unless its a special outing or something. then we wake him up around 2am or so and have him go, he usually will for us. He wears pull-ups everynight but he has such a bladder capacity (a family joke--hes still going) if he wets he wets through everything. shawna
