These are the famous words of Jaqui's first drum teacher, Babatunde

Olatunji, and also the foundation for all of her teachings. In the Drum

For Joy!™ workshops you will learn the language of the djembe

drum,basic hand drum technique, and how to make your drum sing. Jaqui

presents the drum songs in a way that make it fun and easy to learn. By

building and playing drum compositions with all of their

parts,(rhythms, breaks, solos and vocals), you will experience the

magic of music making and the joy of drumming in a group! All

levels of experience are welcome. From the "beginning beginner" to the

experienced player, the Drum For Joy!™ workshops are enjoyable for

everyone! Jaqui specializes in djembe drumming, but other hand drums

are welcome at the workshops. MacMillan first found her passion for African drumming in the

early1980's and over a span of thirteen years, studied with numerous

master drummers including Babatunde Olatunji, Mamady Keita, Sam ,

, and Mahiri Fadjimba Keita at the Tam Tam Mandingue School

in Washington, D.C. In 1999 and 2001, she attended the Drum Circle

Facilitators Playshop and the Facilitators Mentor Training in Hawaii

with Arthur Hull and is a founding board member of the Drum Circle

Facilitators Guild (DCFG), an organization dedicated to professionalism

in the field of drum circle facilitation. Having performed

and recorded with some of the top names in the business, she began

sharing her joy of drumming with others by offering private lessons,

facilitating drum circles, and teaching workshops through her Drum For

Joy!™ program. For over seventeen years and throughout the USA, Jaqui

has facilitated drum circles for hundreds of conferences, corporate

team building events, elementary and high schools, hospitals, programs

for "at risk" children, juvenile detention centers, and programs for

homeless and battered women. For eight straight years, The

Washington Area Music Association, (WAMA), awarded Jaqui the title

of"World Music Instrumentalist" and she has also been featured in DRUM!

Magazine. As an endorsee of Mountain Rhythm Percussion, Jaqui

represented the company as a guest facilitator at Summer NAMM in

Nashville, TN, at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference,

(PASIC) in Ohio, and as a workshop leader at the Seattle World Rhythm
