Rumi Subject: the work is the answer To: Loving-what-is Date: Monday, October 27, 2008, 7:36 PM is that true? yes can you absolutely know this? no i cant. how do you react this thought when it doesn't solve stuff? i think im a lost cause, i do it again and again over and over, i start to hate it and hate myself. who would you be if you didn't believe it's the answer? i would probably look for something else, i would be as miserable, if i would do the work i would do it with less expectations, i wouldn't as hate myself when the problem returns. T.A: the work is not the answer 1.right, i can see that.. it's another addiction, another thing im depended on. 2.maybe it's not working at all and everybody wants to believe it so much they fool themselves with it. 3.the work is not the answer to...... what question? T.A: the work is the question T.A: i am the answer 1.what question am i the answer too? 2.everything in me is ok the way it is well this has gone nowhere.. Guest guest
Facy, The work is not the answer, because ultimately it does goes nowhere - when you say " the answer " , check out what you mean by that, what you think it will deliver / provide. This is (probably) your motive for doing the work. A place to take this motive, if you want to, is to check out if you will really be happier if you get this. (I use the format of " I'd be happier if..... " ). For example, when I started with the work, my motive was to save my relationship with my (now) ex-wife - then my motive after that was to stop feeling depressed / feel peace (which I pictured as never feeling unhappy, etc). (I can even remember inquiring into " I want to be happy " and inquiring into " I'd be happier if I was happier " - which still makes me laugh) However, as I've continued, I do feel more at peace with feeling unhappy, sometimes depressed, more balanced. In my experience, the work will ultimately fail to deliver anything other than truth - and it's sort of designed that way. And I notice that my relationship with my ex-wife has improved, not in the way I wanted originally - I'm not much more at peace about it, can think of her without feeling irritation, anger, etc. By the way, I don't see anything wrong with having a motive for doing the work - I doubt anyone would start using it without a motive - and noticing the motive can show where we're trying to 'get something' from using the work.
