Guest guest
Hi there They used TENS on me at PT, it was fairly useless for me I hate to say. Of course, we're all different. Heat from a regular heating pad helps me sometimes AG > >Reply-To: tetheredspinalcord >To: tethered spinal cord <tetheredspinalcord > >Subject: TENS Therapy/Feedback ? >Date: Mon, 21 Aug 2006 18:45:31 -0700 (PDT) > >Who here has used TENS therapy for nerve pain? Guest guest
, I use a portable TENS device. I got it about a year ago after everything else the NS proposed didn't seem to help. I did not want to take medications (I have what I call chronic low-level pain) since I think at this point the side-effects would outweigh the benefits, so I tried the TENS. I assume you know how the device works - I usually wear it all day at work. I find that it helps sometimes but not always. I think part of the effect is just pyschological, but who cares!? My insurance paid 80% of the device, which if I remember correctly cost about $250.00. What adds up are the electrodes. I can't imagine that the device would help anyone with real severe pain issues, but depending on your case maybe it can do something for you. Good luck, --- Maher wrote: > Who here has used TENS therapy for nerve pain? > Anyone? My PT has recommeded it to try since massage > is only inflamming the nerves at this point. Guest guest
Hi , I am a registered nurse who has worked mostly in critical care.... so I honestly had heard of it but never used it in my practice as most of our patients are obviously acute care cases. However, I got to know the TENS unit really well since my detethering 1/06. I had a much harder case than was expected. He ended up doing 5 laminectomies and quite a bit of lysis of adhesions of the nerves in the cauda equina. So what I ended up with is still the ability to Walk!!! Yea! On the flip, after surgery in the recovery room I couldn't stop cussing (and I really don't cus much) because I was in so much pain.... not from my back but my feet. Once I got on some meds for the peripheral neuropathy and pain meds it calmed down. However once the anti-inflammatories wore off my back started hurting so bad the only position of comfort was flat!!! I had constant back pain. The pain meds (vicodin) would take the edge off for two maybe three hours but never eliminate it. I know the TENS unit is controversy but it help me. I wore it as much as I could. If I turned is up high enough it seems like it would override my brain from receiving the pain message. It truly is individual dependant. I haven't used it lately because I received a cortisone shot in my back that has helped! Thank God!!! I hope this helps, TENS Therapy/Feedback ? Who here has used TENS therapy for nerve pain? Anyone? My PT has recommeded it to try since massage is only inflamming the nerves at this point. She says I'm not the typical case. I laughed. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Guest guest
Hi , I have a portable TENS device that I use on and off for nerve pain. I got it after my Decompression surgery for Chiari in 2002. It does help at certain times. My PT has said the same thing about me - I'm not the usual case. But I think that most Chiarians, patients w/tethered cords, etc. aren't the usual patients. Sometimes, the TENs unit helps to calm the nerve pain down. My insurance did pay a portion. It's been awhile so I don't remember how much they paid but it was well worth it when they work. Take care, Wyoming Sportolari wrote: , I use a portable TENS device. Guest guest
Sumchyk was found muttering these words: Hi , I use a TENS maching on a regular basis (daily) and get good results. The only problem is I developed an allergy to the glue used on the electrodes. I use a steroid spray prior to putting them on, but I am still limited as to how long I can use it. But, it works great for me for blocking nerve pain. I am also still at the point where the old tape trick still works. I can block some of the pain/electrical shock feelings in my feet by using a small length of self-sticking ace bandage around the middle of each foot. This is very handy when I want to swim or for taking a shower. Otherwise I cannot stand being without a shoe. <hugs> M. > Who here has used TENS therapy for nerve pain? Anyone? Guest guest
, I am interested in your tape trick but don´t quite understand what you mean. Can you please describe it in more detail. Guest guest
Sumchyk was found muttering these words: Hi , It is an old neurologist's trick someone told me about -- I get horrible buzzing, electrical nerve pain in my feet -- particularly when I am barefoot. It makes swimming or bathing hellish. What I do is wrap a small amount of self-sticking ace bandage around the arch of my foot. Slightly tight but not enough to leave a mark. For some reason this stops the numbness/nerve pain and I can go 'barefoot'. Warning: Use this when you need it only. I have been told if you do this 24/7 it will suddenly stop working for no reason. It still works for me so I don't know at what point it stops. I have also been told the TENS will stop working on pain for no reason as well. Hope this helps. > , > I am interested in your tape trick but don´t quite > understand what you mean. Can you please describe it > in more detail. Guest guest
Hi , thanks for the tip. I have the reverse of you: when I wear shoes I am in agony by the end of the day. I bought shoes 2 sizes bigger and that helps a little, but barefoot is what does it for me....by the way I can confirm what you said about the TENS: I wore mine all day (not at night) every day and it did start to fail me a bit. But just the other day I took the electrodes and put them on my foot and turned the dial to high - bingo! It seems too good to be true. Will let you know if it keeps up, it´s only been 2 days with this new method. Have a nice weekend, --- wrote: > Sumchyk was found muttering these words: > > Hi , > > It is an old neurologist's trick someone told me > about -- I get horrible > buzzing, electrical nerve pain in my feet -- > particularly when I am > barefoot. Guest guest
Hi Holly, I have used a TENS unit .I found it a little helpful but not not consistantly. I dont know about you but ,I have a nerve conddition,I feel like I vibrate from head to toe all the time. The Tens ,aaafter a while started to make that condition worse. I say give it a try everyone has different issues, this might really help you.Make sure your insurance covers it !! I got mine about ten years ago,and had to pay 300 dollars for it. Thank God , for my folks,I never would be able to pay for it. I hope I helped at least a little. Moe
