I went to the University of Penna Hospital and they are going to admit me on Thursday for a lung biopsey to find out what I really have. For this reason I will be leaving the group. I do not post often but I have truely enjoyed reading everyones input for the past year and want to tell you that you have been a very well informed compassionate group and I wish the best of health for everyone. Guest guest
I'm new to this site and group. I had several lung biopsies in early 90s to try to diagnosis my chronic cough. No dx was made so ended up with the catch-all dx of bronchiectasis. Still no very effective treatment it seems, and in another cycle of severe coughing and on prednisone again after 4 rounds of antibiotics. Good luck with your surgery. Guest guest
Has anyone considered the possiblity you are coughing from acid reflux? I was sick for a year, being treated for bronch. with no relief--until a nurse suggested I may have acid reflux. She was right!!! My symptoms are gone now that I am taking a proton pump inhibitor (Nexium). Kathy
Guest guest
Hi and welcome, It has been fairly quiet here lately. Please ask away if you have any questions. Are you seeing a respiratory specialist for your bronch? There are things you can do to manage your bronch, although there is no cure. I have had bronch since a 2 year old following whooping cough. I take ciproxin and inhaled tobramycin as maintenance antibiotics, as I have a chronic pseudomonas infection that is hard to treat. I also do Postural Drainage twice daily to clear my lungs of mucus. It is important to keep your lungs as clear as possible, to prevent further infection. Take care, and keep in touch. Guest guest
are there any other symptoms that could suggest the acid reflux? i often cough with little production, but i keep coughing until i practically throw up ( sometimes i do vomit). it is not fun. i would love to be able to have that stop. Guest guest
for many years my cough is non productive too, just dry and chronic. never cough anything up. i've been tested past and present for acid reflux and recently tried on Prevacid (or some such rx) and no dx or sx for that and the rx made no difference in the cough. was again put on nasal steroid spray too to rule out post nasal drip but that made no difference either in the cough. when mine is bad I cough until I throw up too, then that stops the coughing for then. Guest guest
I eat blueberries on my cereal every morning, and after I ate I would cough up something that I noticed was tinged blue--proof to me that it was coming from my stomach and not from my lungs! The other indication of the misdiagnosis was that none of the remedies the pulmonologist prescribed made me better. Oh, and what I coughed up was mostly clear or whitish foamy liquid. My doctor kept saying he didn't know what the foam was--none of his patients had complained of that! If you do decide to try a proton pump inhibitor be prepared to be patient. I didn't get signifcant results for 7 months, and even got some improvement as late as after 11 months on the drug! I didn't get any results for more than 2 months. It was awful! Guest guest
I believe it is acid reflux meds like Nexium that heals esophageal erosions as well as inhibits acid production. If I’m wrong, someone please let me know.
