Guest guest
Wow! That was scary. My hubby hates when I leave the bedroom window open but I feel like I cant breathe unless I feel the cool air blowing on my face and the air conditioner just doesnt feel the same to me. I finally agreed to have a fan on the floor directed right at me so he can sleep without waking and worrying. I dont dare read this to him or I will get one of his long long lectures about how he is always right...thing is he almost always is. LOL I am sure glad you are safe and the worst thing that happened was a mess to clean up. I had an instance when a young man was coming through my teenage daughters bedroom window one night. The window was closed but not locked. I was glad I didnt have a gun as it turned out to be the son of a good friend of ours. He had taken some drugs and didnt know what he was doing, just wanted to see my daughter and was too scared to knock on the door. Wow though, I dont think I would have thought to do what you did with locking yourself in the bathroom and grabbing your purse with cell phone on the way. I am sure glad you are safe. Guest guest
Joyce, Oh no no no...not brave at all. I think it's called shock. To be woken out of a sound sleep to the sight and sound of someone climbing in my window, then standing on my dressing table shouting, 'Lady you better give me all your f & **!ng money'. It's probably a miracle I didn't have a heart attack. I remember noticing that his hands were empty so I grabbed for the phone which he promptly knocked out of my hand. Then I rolled the other way on my bed and ran for my bedroom door grabbing my bag on the way out of the room. From there I locked myself in the bathroom. I was without my O2 at this point but I didn't care a whole lot. Oddly he yelled some more but never came near the bathroom door. He was really really drunk which was probably a blessing as he was so incoherent he probably didn't know where I had gone. As I said, by the time the police arrived he had thrown up all over my bedroom carpet and was curled up on the floor crying. It's sad really, so young to be so messed up. I have no idea who he is or how he came to be here but right now I'm very glad he's still sitting in the local county jail. I could stand a bit less excitement. Looking forward to being able to sleep again. Right now I'm having a hard time. My brother in law has offerd to install the kind of locks that Leanne talked about in her message so I think I'll let him do that for me. It might help me to sleep better. Hope so!! Guest guest
Beth...what an awful experience! I'm so glad you are ok. You did a smart thing by locking yourself in another room. Yeah, guess it's better to sleep w/windows closed or at least put a dowel between edge of window and edge of frame. I'm so glad you're ok. Guest guest
Carolyn, I didn't think about grabbing my bag. I can't take credit for anything at all that happened. It was pure reaction or maybe my angel grabbed it for me. All I know is I had it in the bathroom and my phone was there. In retrospect, it seems I wasn't in any real danger but I didn't know that then. I am just very happy to still be here. That's so scary that this kid came in your daughters window. Did it scare her? It's one thing when it's us but if you're like me, you don't mess with my child. I'll take you apart limb from limb. Know what I mean? Beth IPF 06/06Draw close. Hold hands. Life is short. Guest guest
Sher, That's what my wonderful brother-in-law did for me today. Cut a dowel into pieces that allow the window to be open about 4 inches but no further. Now it's going to be chilly tonight so the windows will probably be closed anyway. Although I confesss my preference to have at least a breath of fresh air at night. It was pretty awful but in looking back at it, I see that God protected me and I'm so grateful. Now if I could just settle down and get some sleep, I'd be happy! Beth IPF 06/06Draw close. Hold hands. Life is short. God is good. Guest guest
Dear Beth: No, my daughter wasnt scared, she was asleep and only woke when she heard me yell at him and she recognized him immediately. That is why I was glad I didnt have a gun in the house. Can you imagine shooting the 16 year old son of a good friend because you mistook him for a predator? I am like you about my children, in fact my kids use to say that all their acquaintances were afraid of me because I acted so fierce and questioning till they got to know me better. Their friends knew I was a good person but anyone new trembled in their shoes if they did anything to arouse my suspicion. Even guys at the mall that would look at my daughters the wrong way would get a loud tongue lashing from me where everyone could hear. Used to embarrass my daughters half to death.
