Guest guest
Elissa, My daughter just had urodynamics last week. I have to tell you - this test really sucks. My daughter cried for the entire hour. And I didnt realize they had to use x-rays at her pelvic level. Anyway, the good news is that the results came back normal. We did this before the surgery. They want to do it again 6 months after the surgery. So, the only reason for this urodynamics is a baseline. If it is worse after the surgery, I guess we will know it was because of the surgery? So, if it is terriby worse, I can sue? To me, if there is a bladder problem, there is a bladder problem. Just measuring it is not useful. However, we need to make sure that the kidney health is not compromised - cause once you have kidney reflux and stuff, it can affect the health of kidney, and lead to kidney failure, dialysis etc. That is the most important thing. My urologist said that ultrasound cannot tell you about kidney health and reflex. I dont understand why - cant you see fluid accumulation? Anyways, if there is any other means to ensure kidney health, I wouldnt want to have urodynamics unless I see a problem. Am I missing anything? Anyone? Guest guest
Hi Abby, You can't sue for a bad result ... you can only sue if the dr. was grossly negligent in some way and did not perform a reasonable standard of care. (Well I guess you can sue for anything, but it'd likely be a waste of time and money). _____ From: tetheredspinalcord [mailto:tetheredspinalcord ] On Behalf Of subub_98 Sent: Monday, April 24, 2006 10:14 AM To: tetheredspinalcord Subject: Re: my baby girl - Urodynamics Elissa, My daughter just had urodynamics last week. Guest guest
Actually you can sue for Compensation, due to a poorer outcome then they were expecting (for lack of wording it better), which is not saying the Dr. is responsible (Negligent), which is legit. Which is not a waste of time. Although I am not denying that there are plenty of friverlous Lawsuits out there. Guest guest
The Dr. and Patient. It's a joint decision.......but often times one side wins out. Expectations can be voiced, but that's probably not done as much as it should be. It's very complex, not as simplistic as we are talking here. Guest guest
I wasnt saying I would like to sue anyone. The point I was trying to make is that if the only benefit is that I can sue, I would rather just not bother with the baseline measurements. > > > The Dr. and Patient. Guest guest
I knew what you meant. I just wanted to point that out. You want Baseline Results, that is a good thing. Guest guest
Abby, Thanks! I am still trying to figure this all out and any input helps. Elissa- mom to Jesmarie (4 months- lipomyelomeningocele, tethered cord, syrinx- surgery at 3 months). subub_98 wrote: Elissa, My daughter just had urodynamics last week. Guest guest
Very complex b/c if she got worse you wouldn't know if it was just a complication of the tsc. It appears there are no promises with tsc surgery. Surgery in theory doesn't make the urodynamics worse but sometimes it can not improve what is already not working right, especially with the bladder. So it's good news that the bladder is OK. Urodynamics, depending on the type and the operator will tell you about reflux or not. Your point seems valid as far as why get measurements...it all depends how your doctor wants to use it and the reasons they give you for it. In a baby it's hard to tell bladder function b/c they're not potty trained so maybe your surgeon wanted this info to decide if cathing was necessary to protect the kidneys? Guest guest
If you didn't have something wrong (a certain Symptom) before Surgery, but did right after........then I would have to say that it would be more likely that it was the Surgery, rather then the Tethering. Surgery can make Tests Results worse after Surgery, if something went wrong..........which a worse Test Result would show that something has gone wrong. Hope that made sense.
