Guest guest
Dr. JM & Listmates: My 4 yr old son has been chelating with TD-DMPS since Feb 2005. Last month, we did our urine & fecal toxic metals tests. For background, he had been diagnosed with Asperger's last January, right before starting chelation. We started with 1 drops of TD-DMPS, and went up very slowly, reaching 20 drops (close to full dose for his weight) only this past October. Anyway, we had seen elevated (yellow & red) mercury and lead in both urine & fecal from the beginning (we started urine/fecal testing 1 mo into chelation). Here are the results from previous tests & from this past test. Format below::: (reference) 1 mo / 4 mo / 6 mo / 10 mo URINE MERCURY::: (<5) 9.3 / 6.4 / 7.8 / 1.6 URINE LEAD::: (<5) 4.3 / 3.3 / dl / dl FECAL MERCURY::: (<.05) .029 / .017 / .046 / .008 FECAL LEAD::: (<.50) .54 / .64 / 1.07 / .72 I just reported on the lead & mercury, but the trends with other metals have been similar. Lots of things in yellow/red in both urine & fecal earlier on, but most metals are <dl (not detectable) or just blips in green. The only exceptions are fecal lead (yellow) and fecal platinum (red). Behaviorally, he's done great. He's been diagnosed as no longer being on the spectrum, although I still see quirky, ADHD-like behavior and am still working hard toward full recovery. I'll be talking to his DAN dr about what to do going forward, but now that we're approaching the 1-yr mark with TD-DMPS, I'm starting to wonder what to do about chelation. He's done great with DMPS, so I haven't considered switching to anything else, but it seems like mercury has really gone up and then come down during the last year. I remember people saying (although I didn't pay attention at the time, since it seemed so unattainable at that point) that when you have lots of mercury come out and then come down alot, that's a good sign that you can stop. Of course, I remember Buttar saying that for the patients for whom this " dip " happened, they had mercury in the red, off the charts, which we've never had. Since we're still seeing good amounts of lead, I'm tempted to switch over to TD-DMSA and see what we get with that. I would LOVE any thoughts regarding what I should do. In particular, for those of you with recovered kids or kids who are done chelating, could you share with me when/why you decided you were done? How did you know it was time to stop chelating? Mind you, I don't think I'm going to stop chelating altogether, as we're just now starting EDTA suppositories this week. But I'm considering stopping TD-DMPS, and I didn't think I'd be at this point for another year or so. Am I right to consider switching to TD-DMSA? Thanks for your thoughts.
