Hello Audrey,

Your approach is not entirely wrong, assuming you want to say that

categorical endpoints are qualitative variables and continuous endpoints are

quantitative variables (in the example below the terms seem to be reversed),

however the translation is inaccurate, since there are several types of

quantitative and qualitative variables, i.e. qualitative variables can be

nominal or ordinal and quantitative variables can be either discrete or

continuous (see:

http://biblioxtrn.uqar.qc.ca/stat/Fichesstat/Variable/variables.htm and

http://www.chups.jussieu.fr/polys/biostats/poly/POLY.Chp.8.html.). These

websites contain pretty good descriptions so that I don't think I need to

provide any further explanations. Accordingly, I would rather use critères

(de jugement) catégoriels/continus.

Kind regards,

Astrid

Betreff: EN>FR : categorical vs. continuous endpoints

Dear all,

I find the expressions " categorical endpoints " and " continuous endpoints " in

a

ppt presentation summarising the results of a clinical trial.

However, I have never met them so far and I am not sure how I have to

translate

them.

I have thought about " critères d'évaluation quantitatifs " and " critères

d'évaluation qualitatifs " , respectively. Do you think I am in the right

way?...

Thank you in advance for any help,

Audrey
