Guest guest
I am always in Pain 24/7 and now with my left hand fingers are tingle and their is numbness I did go to the Neuro doctor the other day and she wanted to start therpy right away so they did the hot packs massage and deep heat. felt good while they were doing it. After about a week we will see how things are doing before the next step. Anyway, today some one said to me I sit to long, and that is way my back hurts so much. I said it hurts no matter what I do, I can be trying to go to sleep and it hurts. It is like they really do not understand the pain. Or I will hear if you are in so much pain way do you want to do this and that. Well, I try to do anything to not think about the pain that I am in and trying not to have to take pain meds ever time I turn around. I try to do things to keep my mind off of the pain always up and down. Medical I do have a couple of things going on with my back right now narrowing curve spin and two other things that were on the report Spinal stensios. Just because you try and stay busy with something to keep your mind off pain, dose not mean that you are not in pain. Well I am going to try and go to bed very tired and had to break down and take a pain pill along with the flexareal. My Endo doctor is going to do a ct scan on my neck and glands, because I am in larged and think that he also felt a lump. So now that has to be check out not sure when that test is going o be done. Lots of things going on right now, it has been very busy scent we got back from vacation one thing after another. We get home last Sunday and got a call Monday evening my sister that lives a little bit far from us, She was out with the kids. They had a sofeball party anyway we get a call from the security people saying that they have scent a fired truck to her house that their was a fire. Was hoping that is was a false alarm but was not the house got smoke damage and some water damage the bathroom was toasted. Their was a short and if it had not been for the alarm going off they would have lost everthing. So now the clean up has started and they cannot stay in the house until sometime next week. Still a lot more work for them to do before they are able to sleep their, They still have to tear down the bathroom area. I get in the moods because of the pain and their are times that no one can understand GRRRRRRRR. Kim

Hi Kim - We understand! And I relate to the comments people make when they question why you're doing anything if you're in so much pain. I think it's because they think of moments when they have acute pain (like a toothache) and they can't do anything but lie in bed and moan. They can't even imagine what it's like to have excruciating pain every moment of every day, so they can't understand why we have no choice but to get up out of bed and have a life *despite* the pain! I really give you credit for finding ways to distract yourself from the pain. That's actually a really smart technique, one that is talked about a lot in pain management books and programs, and it works (as long as we don't do anything stupid we shouldn't to make our pain worse!) It's hard to do sometimes, given our new limitations, but we have to fight to find things that we can do that give us joy. For me, things that always help distract me are things like reading, playing with and petting all my animals, movies (I love Netflix!), and eating out when I can manage it. What are some of the things you love to do that bring you distraction and joy? One other thing....I noticed that you said you wait until the pain is intolerable before you " break down " and take a pain med. If you have adequate supplies of pain meds, please think about changing this approach! It makes it almost impossible for the pain meds to work - they are really most effective when you use them to prevent pain, either to catch it early if it's a spike or to keep it at low levels all the time, not to treat the pain when it gets excruciating. They just don't work as well then. If you don't have adequate amounts of your pain meds to keep you out of pain, talk to your doctor to get more. If he/she is not willing to write enough short-acting meds, then request a long-acting med (like oxycontin, MSContin, etc) to help you maintain a lower pain level all the time. You can still use your short-acting meds for breakthrough pain, but the key is trying to manage your pain sufficiently that you don't have breakthrough very often. Hang in there, Kim. I'm sorry you're hurting so badly, but maybe something I mentioned here can help. Meanwhile, keep enjoying your life as much as you can, and don't let the comments of those who don't have a clue what they're talking about get you down!
