I, too, was apprehensive about contacting a large chemical company for

relatively small amounts of lye but they were very supportive. Give it a shot.

lotion baskets for gifts. I had to sign a Hazmat waiver to purchase lye on-line

and if I purchase more that 2#, I have to pay a $20 hazmat shipping charge.

Peg, I always buy my lye at the grocery store - Red Devil. I can

only get it in 16 ounce containers, but it alleviates the hassles of

shipping.

Hello Peg. ! Please do not worry about Lye,

You can use " Sodium Carbonate " instead of Lye.

If this is not available use " Sodium Bi Carbonate "

(soda bi carb) instead of Lye.Both will

create Lye(Sodium hydroxide solution in water)

It is a daily use item.Lye is used only to reduce

cost.It will increase the cost but to a fraction

of Lye + Shipping.
