Guest guest
Yes. I think Kathleen wins the 1000 points because she got the essence of the joke first. Kathleen, your 1000 frequent flyer miles will buy you some magazines from American Airlines As I said a few hours ago: They are dead. One flew an airplane, the other was a hockey player, a Flyer to be exact. A flier and a Flyer. May I have the 1000 frequent flier points now?Back when it first happened it was one of those sort of made you cringe punchlines as you heard it. Like those who were recently so angry at Gilbert Godfried for his jokes about Japan only days after the Quake as people are still suffering the "fallout" (sorry bad pun, see???) of the entire thing.... in ten years from now who would give a darn, but right now it seems that some folks don't know how to deal with gallows humor in a crisis or traumitizing events.... Because they are both DEAD Flyers..... get it??? Planes vs Hockey Team....To: Sent: Wed, March 23, 2011 10:56:58 PMSubject: Re: My blog on Gatorade etc Re: Super Sports Slurppy??? Yes, but what does that have in common with Lindbergh, who lived the latter part of his life on Maui and died of cancer? I'm going for all the money here. My wife is the hockey fan in the family- Go Bruins!Pelle's death was remarkable in many ways. Driving a $117,000 (in 1985 $) Porsche 930 into the wall of an elementary school is a Hell of a way to lobotomize oneself. His father flew(punny?) in from Sweden the next day, to say goodbye before the docs pulled the plug.I can not figure out why it was in particularly bad taste for the first year after his death. He was beloved in Philly. The named an award for most improved player after him.Given the hydration aspect of this thread, I'll go for extra credit noting that Pelle's blood alcohol level was 0.24 at time of impact. He was the first goalie to bring a water bottle to the net as he had several episodes of dehydration while goal tending. For extra credit- he was the only NHL player ever selected to the All-Star game posthumously! That's my best effort, MachataTim, Thank you Tim. And thank you for NOT mentioning those Dreaded Flyers..... "Let's Go Rangers!!!" I even have some IMP Camp Rochester 2008 with me wearing my NYR's Gretzky Tee-Shirt.... Joke of the Day for Hockey Fans: Q: What do Pelle Lindbergh and Lindbergh have in common???? A: They're both DEAD Flyers!!!! Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh 1,000 points only to truly NON Hockey people who understand the full extent of that in bad taste joke... I'd love to try it . I think I'll go have some green tea now. I went out of town and rented a cabin by a river to do my TAXES!! Guest guest
re: Conn Smythe Trophy for Most Valuable player in the Playoffs. It has been won 5 times by a member of the losing team; most recently was 2003 when goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere won ; his Anaheim Ducks losing in 7 games to Devils. the only non-goalie to win the Conn Smythe in a losing cause was: Reggie Leach of the Philadelphia Flyers in 1976 when Montreal swept them in 4 games. Remember: the Conn Smythe is voted on by hockey press and insiders and rewards the best performance throughout the entire playoffs. The winner must be a large part of the reason their team had success in the entire Stanley Cup playoffs. more trivia. it has been awarded 45 times to 39 players and ONLY 4 TIMES has it been awarded to a non-Canadian hockey player. Incredible!. that shows how much Canadian players peak for the Stanley Cup playoffs!! proudly Canadian Dennis Galvon PS; Here is a real doozy. Which player won the Conn Smythe and a Stanley Cup the year BEFORE he won the Calder Trophy as the top rookie in the NHL??? (come on, you know this guy....) Hey next good trivia question: Who was at least the last and perhaps the only player (not totally sure of that part) to be on the losing team of the Stanley Cup Finals and yet he won the MVP Award for the Most Valueable Player of the Play-Offs??? I have a decent hint if stumped at first go....
