Guest guest
Our doctor told us to give our son B-vitamins. Here's what the bottle says for one capsule: Thiamine 40 mg (2667% RDA) Riboflavin 11 mg (647%) Niacin 140 mg (700%) Vitamin B6 10 mg (500%) Folic Acid 400mcg (100%) Vitamin B12 400 mcg (6667%) Biotin 400 mcg (133%) Panthothenic Acid 100mg (1000%) Choline Citrate 80mg These RDAs are for adults, and the adult dosage is 1-3 capsules a day. My son is 55 lbs. The doctor says to give 3 capsules. That would mean for B6 it would be 1500%, for Niacin it would be 2100%, for B12 it would be over 24,000%. Are these safe levels? I'm a bit concerned as I had read that too much B6 or Niacin can be dangerous. Thanks,
Guest guest
He's not getting enough B12, B6 or folate in this formula. If he's on the spectrum, he needs megadoses. Forget the RDA's, they are meaningless for our kids. Guest guest
Dr. JM, Thank you for your reply. This formula is Thorne's Basic B-Complex. Would you have a better recommendation for a formula? What levels of B12, B6 & folate would he need? I can't seem to find this info in my research. Gratefully, > He's not getting enough B12, B6 or folate in this formula. Guest guest
This is an excellent formula and I use it regularly, though I tend to prefer Ecological Formulas' Co-Enzyme B Complex for a B multiple. The B12 should be given as injections per weight in addition to anything in a multiple; B12 is non-toxic and essential for our kids in mega-mega doses. I give every child Folacal (folinic acid 800mcg twice daily) to go along with the injections, regardless of size or whatever they may be getting in anything else. Folate is also non-toxic and essential in large doses, as all our kids have methylation defects that interfere with normal absorption of B-12 and folate. In addition to any multiple, I give every child one (and occasionally two) daily of B6 in its biological form P5P+Mag - I get this from Klaire.
