Hello Everyone,

This is my first posting in the group, and I am fairly new to rehab. I have a

10 year old female spayed agility Vizsla that I have been seeing for NWB left

rear for about 6 weeks. She was at two veterinarians before she came to me.

Her regular veterinarian told her it was her cruciate and she went to a

orthopedic specialist who told her it was her hips :-) The rads of the hips are

beautiful and the stifles looked ok on my first view also. She is ian,

so the owners do not want to do anything that involves sedation/anesthesia.

The first time I evaluated her I got only mild pain on full extension of the

stifle. Muscle wise, she was severely atrophied on that leg and had multiple

trigger points in her sartorius and pectinius. Her iliopsoas was mildly painful

bilaterally. She had mild pain on palpation of the caudal aspect of her stifle.

She had no drawer or thrust or swelling in her stifle. She had significantly

more external roatation on her left rear than her right rear. She was NWB, but

when we could get her to weight bear she had an almost skipping gait sort of

similar to a patella but not.

After evaluating her, I suspected that she had a torn or avulsed popliteal

muscle. I started laser therapy, e-stim (passive, pulsed for pain), ther ex

(mostly wt. shifting and balance work), HEP (square sit, theraband, prom), joint

mobs (stifle), massage therapy, and underwater treadmill. She started to show

improvement after about 4 treatment sessions, and was starting to weight bear

about 75 - 85 % of the time. Then 2 weeks ago she started to backslide. Now

she is very painful on stifle extension and is weight bearing less.

Interestingly she seems to be able to extend without pain if the hip is in

extension. So now I'm thinking maybe a Biceps femoris issue? I did take video

today that I will try to post.

Help?

Thanks in advance
