Guest guest
OK -- was visiting mom and doing those 'finish the phrase' games with mom. First the funny: I said, " Eat like a... " and instead of " horse " mom said " " But then awhile later mom saw a horse when we were sitting outside on the patio. I acknowledged and steered the conversation away from the horse. Awhile later -- mom mentioned it again -- and she was frightened of the horse. Then she asked if I saw the cow -- so I then decided it was time to have a change of scenery and we went indoors. So, although it was odd, I didn't think much of it. Mom has never mentioned seeing a horse before (mostly her hallucinations include my deceased father, " two beautiful red-haired boys " , and a cat.) Yesterday's visit -- we were in the sun room along with the geriatric massage therapist that visits my mom weekly for a massage & music therapy session... And the geriatric massage therapist mentioned that she saw a bear when she was in New Hampshire recently and she told us the story of seeing a baby bear on the porch in the house she was staying in. Awhile later mom was staring off into space and I asked what she was looking at -- she said she was looking at the bears... Both times mom was more tired than usual... I wonder if our conversations and/or what our LOs watch on TV, etc. sometimes influence the brain to develop these hallucinations. Although mom's other hallucinations are somewhat permanent -- she mentions them out of the blue many times (my dad, the boys, the cat) Just thinking out loud here... Guest guest
My mother frequently had visions of my father, that our horses were -out of the fences - running free, and visions of our old family milk cow. Mostly they were not items of fear, but once she wanted me to go out and untie the rope holding the milk cow because the calf was tangled up too. What was funny, is that I can't ever remember Old Red being tied up. That 45 or so years ago when Old Red was our family pet milk cow, during summer, she usually went free range- unfenced around the farm, but she would routinely return to the house at milking time, and she would just stand there while mom or dad milked. We had half a dozen different family milk cows after Old Red, but that is the cow that mom saw. I did buy mom some real parakeets when she told of some strange visions of parakeets. We also got a house kitten that was great comfort for her. Buddy the Cat stayed pretty close to her, and slept with her in her chair, or on her bed with her. For my mom, the live animals mostly trumped the visions, and gave her some peace. Dann wrote: OK -- was visiting mom and doing those 'finish the phrase' games with mom. Guest guest
I've had the same thoughts about t.v. I stopped the war programs, the news, cop shows, etc., and a lot of the disturbances have subsided. It is either the cooking shows, comedies, or other light materials for us now. When my husband would awaken, I could tell by his vocabulary that he had picked up on a recent show. Arlene
