Many people in this group are refugees from that group. would fit in better there than here. (He tried dominating LC-DIABETES and got blown out of the water.) I see that your are at Earthlink. I assume you are using Outlook Express. I'm on AOL right now, which does everything different. From memory, I would say go to Tools (or something up top) and there is a menu selection called Newsgroups. Wait a long time for all of them to load. Do a search for misc.health.diabetes (or just diabetes) and sign up for it. Your account will be set to download 300 headers at a time, so keep clicking on it until you have all of the recent posts, and dive in. (Steel yourself for a lot of worried newbies, mixing it up with clueless, opinionated oldtimers, who spend much of their time dealing not with ideal glucose control but how to manage all the complications they have accumulated from their wrongheaded approach. Also, the group is not moderated. You will encounter outright spammers and just plain goofballs.) Susie
Guest guest
Errr.. Sorry , Netscape Messenger has the option " subscribe " in the file menu for newsgroups. Choosing that allows you to select the newsgroups you want to " belong " to. Guest guest
True enough Dave, but its not subscribing in the same respect that subscribing to a mailing list is, and that's what I wanted to be clear on... Or at least confusing enough to elicit questions... How Do I Subscribe....... > > Susie wrote: <I basically begged Bob to join our group, after becoming > a friend and admirer of his in misc.health.diabetes.> > > One of the very few things I agree with about is his respect & > enjoyment for the writings of Bob......the question I have is: How do > you subscribe to misc.health.diabetes? Guest guest
I think the confusing part is the fact that software vendors and most of the old timers use subscribe for both newsgroups and mailing lists and yet the process is completely different for each... ARGH!! Re: How Do I Subscribe....... Elting wrote: > Newsgroups aren't a subscribe type thing, ... Although some people use the > word subscribe > to mean belonging to either system... Netscape Messenger (email/newsreader component of Communicator) uses terminology like " subscribe " to newsgroups. You " subscribe " to the newsgroup in the Message Centre, which shows the list available from your isp. The chosen newsgroup becomes a subfolder which is located in the dropdown box below the Inbox. From then on you can access the newsgroup messages much like email, however, the messages are not stored on your pc, and must be online to see them. You do not need a separate newsreader to access the messages. It can become confusing to a newcomer whether they are accessing email or usenet. But I like it.
