I'm not sure how effective they would be with a nonverbal child with autism - but we recently had our son evaluated by Premier Psychological Services in Houston.

They have a website that tells a lot about them.

My son is somewhat verbal and they did autism testing (to determine severity, due to my disagreement with the school's eval.), plus nonverbal IQ testing, and several other types of testing.

We used Dr , who has a doctoral level education, plus additional specialty training in autism testing. I can't remember what all she has expertise in, but it seemed impressive to me.

Dr. evaluated my son a couple of years ago, when he was at his worst. She did a great job, especially in that essential of testing him at his best, putting him at ease and engaging him so that he would do whatever he was capable of doing. It was a stark contrast to a terrible evaluation we had recently gone through (with the school system), where the evaluation team made him so miserable he completely shut down.

Hi ,

My son is nonverbal and is in a drug trial at UT Chidl and Adolescent Psychiatry

clinic and they have done a bunch of IQ and medical tests on him for the study.

He is mostly nonverbal. When the school district said that he was " severely

autistic " based on the CARS method, I spoke with the person performing the study

and they told me that that did not agree with that assumption and neither did I

and that they could do further testing if I wanted to fight the school district.

They have been really wonderful with him. If I was going to have any additional

testing done, I would do it there. The number is . Best of luck.

We got our results yesterday from Dr and I am pleased with her testing. I believe she was effective in getting the best out of my son, too.

We also were not happy with the testing the school recently did, which was why we sought the eval from Dr . The school's eval said my son is severely autistic and possibly mentally retarded. We didnt' feel this was accurate at all. We felt that he is moderately autistic and not mentally retarded.

The school also didn't consult with us or get any input from us whatsoever and based all their results on his performance the first & second week of school (after being homeschooled for the past year). During this time, adjusting to school was causing severe behavior issues. I also think the school psychologist is biased against home schooling and let those biases impact his judgement.
