Guest guest
I wonder whyit is worse w/hud housing. It seems everything is a battle when it involves anything to do w/the government, in alot of instances. Take this example. 2 people same street one home HUD, one home not. (Bad city, bad part of town) Both homes had an IAQ problem along w/others, pretty unfit to even live in if you ask me. Both people call to lodge a complaint about their homes w/their landlords. Still having problems. So they contacted the housing authority that is suppose to enforce the fair housing act and reasonable accommodations acts.(not sure what the exact name was in their area-I've never personally done it) They come out and inspect. Renter in the HUD home is told he must take it up w/his landlord, they don't get involved. Other landlord (the non-HUD home) gets fined and given a time line to fix the problem. Hmmmmm, now does that make sense? I wasn't speaking of HUD homes/apartment rentals when I spoke. After witnessing some of the living conditions out here w/HUD housing I am amazed. It shouldn't matter if it is HUD/section 8/low income or whatever the heck it is. EVERY person deserves to live in clean, safe home. We do have some wonderful HUD/section 8/low income landlords out here, who do care about the families renting their properties and treat them that way. I have an acquaintance that is one of them. His homes are well maintained, clean, he talks me if there is water intrusion of any sort to make sure they clean it up properly, which has only happened a couple of times. He told me that if a family came to him and requested the things we are speaking about he would be scared to accommodate, and that most probably would just say NO. I asked why. He said because the rent he is getting just covers the basic property and repairs. What if their were some huge IAQ issues, and he didn't have the money to fix them? He also said that because out here HUD/section 8 housing is at it's high it's probably easier for most landlords to just NO, because the waiting is sooooooo long and it isn't hard to find tenants who have no requests, they just need a place to live. Most people wouldn't lodge a complaint anyway, and most landlords know this. That if they did lodge a complaint it would take them forever to investigate, if they even would anyways. Now to me this sucks. Didn't the government make these " ACTS!!!! " Seems HUD would enforce it more on these properties. But, what do I know. Apparently not much when it comes to figuring it out. So, Darlene and Elvira I'm with you on this one. What a crock of crap. WE don't know what is possible so we don't know what to ask for or what to insist on.
