Guest guest
The on's want to send a HAPPY 4th OF JULY to everyone out there !!!!!!!!!!!!! Ever since Tryny has come into our lives, the fireworks and hoopla on the 4th of July has always meant more to our family. It's like a celebration of Tryny's life. See, we adopted Tryny when he was 3 months old (we brought him home on June 23, 1994) and he was the baby that my whole family had been waiting for. We didn't get to keep him at home for even 24 hours before he had to be rushed to Children's hospital (in San Diego as that's where we were living at the time). He was so sick, fever of 105.4 and the doc's couldn't find the source. On July 2, 1994 (just 8 days after being admitted to the PICU and on every machine known to man) they still had no idea as to what was wrong, but the one thing they did know was that his little, frail heart was slipping fast. So on July 3, they did his 1st open heart surgery. After a grueling 9 hour surgery, he was brought back to the PICU ( still on the vent, still hooked up to tubes and machines) but still fighting for his life. It was at 7:00 p.m. on July 4th (the paralyzing drugs were finally starting to wear off) that he opened his little eyes. He couldn't focus to well yet, but I stayed in his face (rubbing the only spot on him that wasn't hooked up to something) his forehead. At 8:31 p.m. exactly, he looked straight into my eyes, and wiggled his little eyebrows ( that has since become his " look of love " ). At that same moment the fireworks started blazing, literally right outside his window, with all the colors of the rainbow. To me, that moment will always stand for " God telling me that my son was a fighter, and he would be okay " , to love him with all I have and to cherish every moment of his life. There have been times in Tryny's life that I could have broken down and cried, some of the 25 surgeries he has had to go through didn't have the best odds, but I have always kept the vision of those fireworks in my mind and the look Tryny gave me on that July 4th, and always kept a " smile " on my face. So when all of you see those beautiful fireworks tomorrow night (whether you see them in person or watching them on tv) think of me " smiling " and share that " smile " with me ( for Tryny and all our CHARGErs) and for the beautiful reason we have to smile OUR CHILDREN !!!!~!!!! Guest guest
Debra, I will think of Tryny tomorrow night during fireworks. Did you know he had Charge when you adopted him? or did you just adopt a baby and find out about all this fun afterwards? You sound like a great mom. Hope 2 meet you if you go to Houston--? After the classes were through, we told our social worker that we knew that God had a " little boy " out there somewhere that needed only us. We knew he would be " special " beyond belief, and even probably only have a short time on this earth. But we knew we could make a difference in his life if only given the chance. When we found out about Tryny ( he was only 3 weeks old when he became a ward of the state, and then they " labeled him unadoptable " because all of his doctors had decided that he wouldn't live paste 10 months old). Our social worker was hesitant about telling us about him as she knew it would be very hard to adopt him (after being labeled, the state prefers to put the children in institutions to await their death). But we persisted and pushed for him to be ours and God saw us through, and on June 23 ( at 13 weeks old we brought home our " special angel " ). We knew that his prognosis was bleak, but we also knew that we could make a difference (even if it was for only a short time). And with our faith in God and our determination that we wouldn't ever give up until God told us it was time ( not the doctors) we have our little miracle to prove that with a lot of will and determination, the impossible is " quite possible " . He has beaten all the odds laid out by the doctors and surpassed most of their aspectations. So yes, we knew about him and the disease(.'s) but what we have learned since is what a miraculous little miracle he is. Debra
