Guest guest
Ever since entering into solo practice, I thought patients were much sicker with acute illnesses. I realize that at my last practice I did not get to see my patients when they seriously ill. I was too busy... And during what I refer to as " May Medical Mystery Month, " I see 3-5 patients per week with differential diagnoses a mile long. I saw 2 teens with mono hepatitis (no sore throat or lymph nodes until a few day after jaundice), a man with back pain due to a change from brand prevacid to generic (that took a while to figure out, but involved the $*%^#*% " GI cocktail " that I should have given him after the first 2 visits), and 2 febrile RLQ pain females that the surgeons were happy to do appendectomies on for normal organs. As I am learning with time, communication and patient confidence is key. I sent far more folks to the ER on nights and weekends than I ever do now -- but I still dread " May Medical Mystery Month.
