Hi Chelle,

This is supposedly a Pain Management Specialist. LOL I've told his nurse that he

works for the DEA, NOT the patients. He manages the meds, not our pain. And that

is the truth! That is how I feel about it. He's not interested in what works for

me, but what he thinks he needs to prescribe. I hate dealing with finding a new

doc because they all treat you as if your a drug seeker. When I first started

going to him and stressed that the short acting med worked better for me. He

plainly said, " If you are here for short acting pills, then you need to go

elsewhere. " I should have gone elsewhere, but I hate looking for docs. I had a

hard enough time finding this one.

My sister has a really good pain doc and he won't see family or friends, but she

is moving to KS next month and as soon as she's gone, I'm going after him! I'm

just biding my time until I can change.

Oh the med I want him to increase is the fast/short acting MSIR 30mg. He gives

me a measly 90 pills per month and I run out every month. I have to use them

sparingly and it's hard to do.

Anyway, thank you for your input and interest.

Lousy Doctors!

Tommie,

Isn't there any other doctor for your short term meds that would be covered by

your insurance???? (I'm sure you've already looked into this, right? Duh.)

It sounds like you're just NOT getting through to this guy. What's the

medication that you want him to increase? If you can get by on 180 a month,

what's the big deal??? As long as you're not regularly asking for an increase,

but maintaining that dosage, then that is not addiction. That is pain

management. When will they get it????

In all honesty we are doctor shoppers and drug seekers but not for dishonest

reasons. They call it pseudoaddiction. We need to brace doctors with this.

This is real. I once told a dentist when we were discussing my meds...of

course we're drug seekers...it hurts and he cracked up and said... " True...very

true " .

If a doctor has " labled " you you need to fix that. Insist you will NOT be

treated this way and have your treatment for pain be blocked for false

accusations. Agree to see a substance abuse councelor/shrink to get that off

your back. I used to diagnose substance abusers but I was licensed to do so.

Not even doctors are very good at it unless they are trained in addiction. I

was and even the shrinks prefered me to diagnose. I was a substance abuse

councelor as well as a certified psych nurse and could legally do so. The ER

docs suck big time at it. They need to understand the concept of " narcophobia " .

We have to stand up for ourselves and we deserve the best treatment possible.

Just don't make expectations all of your pain will be relieved. It won't.

I know how it feels...I had to use a clinic and if anyone is narcophobic they

are. They really do have to deal with real addicts...free clinics. Glad I got

my disability to get my own doctor back.

Amen to that...

I think there is a difference between being a drug seeker because you

want to get high, and being a drug seeker because your body is

dependent on it--in order to get pain relief.
