Hi Everyone,

Here is an opportunity for people in Melbourne to learn ACT

in the context of Emotional Eating and Weight-loss maintenance.

I am inviting people who have recently lost weight to

participate in a Monash University research study exploring the efficacy of an

Acceptance

and Commitment Therapy intervention for Emotional Eating and Weight-loss

Maintenance.

Volunteers will take part in a free one-day ACT workshop and a

subsequent short follow-up workshop in south east Melbourne. People aged

18yrs old or over and have recently lost weight may be eligible to take part in

the trail.

I am conducting this research as part of a Doctorate in

Psychology degree within the School of Psychology and Psychiatry at Monash

University. My supervisors are Dr. Cate Bearsley- and Professor R.

. Monash University ethics approval number is CF09/2473-2009001435.

For more information please contact me, Emma Gallagher, on

0468 548 518 or email actingonweight@....

Thanks for the opportunity to share this with you.

Kind Regards, Emma.

P.s

Research Hypothesis: Emotional eating may be a significant reason

why most people who lose weight are unable to keep it off. It seems that many

people may use emotional eating to escape feeling their unpleasant emotions,

and this tends to sabotage their weight-loss efforts. Learning ACT may reduce

experiential

avoidance and in turn emotional eating, and contribute to better weight-loss

maintenance.
