Guest guest
Canola is made from the rape seed. About 40 years ago, a couple of Canadian farmers bred the ecrucic acid out of it, and it was a useful oil from a simple hybrid. It was named CAnadian Oil LOw Acid, hence the acronym. Then Monsanto stepped in and genetically modified it. Now, with deregulation, a large percentage of any cooking oil may contain a variety of other unnamed oils. Blech! BTW, coconut oil is comprised mainly of medium, not long chain fatty acids. There is a lot of confusion and mis information about oils. Canola is bad...there is no such plant as a " canola " , so the term " vegetable oil " is misleading. Canola stands for " Canada Oil " , not a plant. It is made from a variety of genetically modified things. Peanut and corn oil are ALL GMO. I press my own sunflower oil, but use even very little of that-I have lost my taste for oily things over time. If I sautee, I do it in a small amount of homemade raw milk butter, or my sunflower oil (which is healthy and available at health food stores) Coconut oil is great stuff-it has long chain fatty acids, and the " saturated " fat in it is easily assimilated by the body. The biggest issue with most oils is that they are usually manufacted in the same factories that process the GMO stuff, so getting a non contaminated one is next to impossible. Olive oil is great in moderation if it virgin, cold FIRST pressed, and comes from a facility that does JUST that type of oil. I use a Piteba press to make oil-very messy, very little yield for the work, but a lovely oil. If I couldn't make my own, I would buy sunflower oil. > > >> > > > >> > I'm so sorry.
