Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the group. I have a 2 1/2 yr daughter w/Autism. Her Autism is on the mild side. I feel emotionally frozen, because I'm getting so many different opinions on how to go about my daughters program. The state svcs. will provide an Autism consultant that has ABA background, and a Skills trainer with no experience, but has a flexible schedule. My daughter is currently rec'd speech and OT 2 xs a week, and 8-10 hrs. of floortime / ABA I've been in contact w/an Advocate who says that she worked with the Autism Consultant that the state is recommending, and doesn't believe this person does true ABA, and doesn't think she will provide an intensive ABA program for my daughter. She believes that we should go after a workshop svcs like CARD instead The current therapist doing floortime believes my daughter needs more social awareness with an inclusion of ABA. Therefore, she thinks floortime would be more beneficial than ABA. From Nov 2004 until now, we've been working with our daughter at home based on ABA tech in " Let Me Hear Your Voice " . My daughter knows her alphas, numbers, shapes, colors, can do puzzles, follow simple directions, can now point, and is now starting to repeat words after we tell her. Is my daughters progress due to our ABA like prog at home? or a combination ABA & floortime. The state is willing to do a progression of hours to 40 if I work with what they got in house vs going to court bring in CARD. Plus, they want to get started. I don't know which way to go. I don't know if the progress my daughter made is based on ABA on floortime or both? and is it substantial or minimal. I would like to know what you would do if you were faced with this situation. I don't plan to act on anything said here. I just want to know what others may think and why. Lorraine
