Thanks for looking into the security issues of on-line fax services, at least in California but I assume it's pretty much the same nationwide.

The benefits of Apractis-Amazing Charts interface for only $5 more per month ($10.95 total) is the ease with importing labs, consults, etc. (and editing or deleting certain pages) directly into AC records. Also ability to email simultaneously to patients their results. I also have a small practice but the paperwork builds up quickly and scanning takes time if you have to do it yourself.

I believe the Apractis people will have a booth set up at the convention to show people how the interface/desktop works.

They are very helpful and may be offering some scheduled teaching sessions as well for us computer novices.

Dear Janice,

Thanks for

the info on Apractis. I have been thinking about whether it is

worth it & I don't really understand how it is easier to put things

in

Amazing Charts. Is it because of the " interface " between

the two. Scanning isn't an issue for faxes coming through another

internet fax service as those can also be received in formats that you

can import into AC also, but maybe there is something about the Apractis

system that makes that easier/faster....can someone explain that?

(I've tried searching the archives for information and I can't really

figure out what is different, sorry if I'm being dense.)

A second

question I have with Apractis is the ability to securely email

patients. On the web site it says that patients can set up accounts

to receive/send secure emails to the doctor.....Has anyone tried

this? How user friendly is it for patients? Do they end up

having to pay for an account? Janice, when you say you can email

patients their results is it through that secure email?

I'm trying

to get my business cards, etc. ordered, and want to get settled on a fax

number before the AAFP meeting if possible. I appreciate anyone's

help.

number to use the Apractis desktop. Someone knowledgeable to help

us out?

Sharon and Gwen,

To use Apractis effectively, you will need to change your fax/voice mail/email address to what Apractis/Onebox gives you. The number is toll free.

It might help to download for a free week the Apractis/Amazing Charts desktop to see if you like it and to read the user guide that shows you step-by-step how to import labs into AC. I recommend following the user guide anyways because it was a bit confusing for me at first. You can also contact Andy Barbash, MD or Rob , MD the creators of this interface and they'll be happy to answer your questions.

THe Apractis interface automatically lists all your AC patients as contacts and then when a lab comes to your email page, you can quickly put it into your desktop and edit it and delete pages and quickly with one or two clicks place it into imported files in the patient record. Immediately after, you can also send the lab results to the patient along with a brief message. Onebox/Apractis uses secure, encrypted messaging but you can never be completely secure, so a pt informed email consent is advised.

I think the accounts that patients can set up are more secure and are free to your first 500 patients, which if you have a small practice covers everyone. I still need to understand this a bit better myself.
