Tammy and ,

Did they say they would sedate him? Bayleigh was sedated for the MRI and CT

scan she had done...it wasn't too bad, although she DID NOT like the chloral

hydrate they gave her orally to sedate...I think she threw most of it up all

down my husband's shirt... :)!!!!! It goes pretty fast, so it's not so

bad...Good luck!!!!!!

We had our appointment with the Pediatric Neurologist and he did diagnose

with positional plagiocephaly and torticollis. I hope he gives my x

pediatrician a few choice words, after all she thought I was nuts! Would

love to be a mouse in that corner.

We get an MRI on May 16. That should be interesting. No food for

for

6 hours prior. That is not going to be fun. They said it would take a half

hour and we should have results and speak to the neurologist the same day,

no

waiting for results. The MRI is to be certain no pressure on his brain. He

said he was a happy, very responsive, social little boy and doesn't see any

problems but just to make sure. Muscle tone was good also.

We have someone local who can fit him with a helmet. Since insurance pays

100% we may just go there. I have an appointment with them Monday to check

it all out. Would like to go to Madison because of the DOC band but a $200

deductible and 80% plus the driving. We will see.

We should be evaluated next week by a physical therapist. Will have to

learn

the stretches. Since he is only 5 months, hopping all goes well.

- yes they are sedating him. Sounds like the same stuff too. They

are going to do it at nap time to make it hopefully easier on all. The

thought of him not eating during the day for 6 hours could make it very

interesting too.

I sometimes wonder if along with the kids' extra change of clothes if I

should pack us a spare! :) Kimry

PS, Abby was also sedated for her CTscan

Kimry...that's just too funny! When was going through his

severe reflux stage (8 wks to 8 months) that is EXACTLY what I had to

do! I remember taking him to the doctor, at approx. 10 wks of age,

for the projectile vomiting problem. Fortunately, (unfortunately for

me) proceeded to demonstrate his remarkable projectile abilities

just when the doctor entered the exam. room...I'll always remember

the first words to come out of the pediatrician's

mouth: " Impressive! " Actually...it was a good thing it was

witnessed...I was beginning to think everyone thought I was nuts! Of

course, we were sent for a STAT abdominal ultrasound and upper GI

series at the hospital all the while smelling like baby puke. It

wasn't fun!

do these babies also have a reflux problem?good lord what's next?livie has

just started the vomiting though we always suspected a reflyx problem.we

thought the asthma may have been triggered by the reflux because she does

arch when you hold her and feed her.we are aware of the many reflux problems

as our youngest son had SEVERE reflux from birth on tillthe age of 2 when he

was diagnosed.he was too small to do any type of testing that may have

included anesthesia or sedation of any type due to failure to thrive and

diaphragmatic hernia.he was treated successfully with tagamet, prilosec and

rice cereal.he also has celiac sprue disease so he's been watched very

carefully by the gastro guys as we call them.we have an appt.today for livie

for what else,an ear infection, and she goes for her 9 month check up on the

25th.the pulmo guy suspects reflux as well.but with her type of insurance we

need to go back to the ped who can then refer us to the g.i.guys.

what's next?

lynne and livie.

I couldn't agree with Polly more! You're amazing, Lynne.

My goodness, Lynne, you certainly have had your hands full! They

were thinking that had pyloric stenosis, hence the GI series at

10 weeks of age. It proved negative so surgery was not needed. I

recall being on Zantac mostly, and Propulsid, too, for a brief

period (thank God he's not on that anymore...just heard about all the

terrible side effects and deaths associated with this drug and I

believe that it has since been pulled from the market) Honestly, his

reflux and failure to thrive was probably primarily due to his

prematurity...his little digestive system just didn't have enough

time to " mature " while in utero. If you have read my " insurance

appeal " (in the files section) you will see that 's reflux was a

contributing cause (among MANY) to the development of his positional

plagio. The only way I could put him down to sleep was in his

bouncer: it kept him in enough of an upright position to reduce the

risks of aspiration from his inevitable vomiting. I feel very

fortunate that he has since, " outgrown " this problem, along with most

others. Now just awaiting his 2nd birthday to see if the scoliosis

improves any.

Lynne, I do want to add that I have read all of your posts and am an

ADMIRER of yours for what you are doing for your niece! You're a

true saint! I will keep you in my prayers.
